A few moments of running through the woods pass. I try to keep up, but in this case, Connor is incredibly fast. I suppose he's excited.
"Would you slow down? Also, do you mind telling me where you're taking me? What about Chip, Peanut, and Coco?" I ask. Connor turns in my direction and stops.
"Would you relax? Everything's alright." He says. His voice is calm, yet I can sense excitement.
After walking for a few more moments, I notice the change in scenery. Instead of oak trees, there are tropical palm trees lining the forest.
Connor stops abruptly in front of magnificent giant leaves. Based on their appearance they look like Hostas. Connor turns and looks at me as he separates the leaves, revealing a waterfall.
I gasp as I gaze at what I think is the most beautiful waterfall I have ever seen.
Grass and tropical trees surround the pool of water. Lush grass and bushes line the perimeter of the waterfall, and seashells line the sand leading up to it. I see a herd of animals by the pool of water at the end of the waterfall. I step closer to it and see that the animals are . . . unicorns! I gasp at the sight. Their purple tails whip on the wet leaves of the bushes. I notice the smaller unicorns are running around and jumping onto each other, while the adults sit around, basking in the sun. Some sleep, but most drink.
"What? How? Unicorns?" I ask Connor, switching my gaze to his face. He shrugs and grins.
"A brilliant species, aren't they?" He says. I can tell he's in the same awe that I am in.
"But how are they here?" I wonder out loud.
"Don't ask me." He says. He throws his hands in the air. I quietly walk over making sure to not spook them and hold out my hand. All the unicorns turn to look at me. Several look at me with disgust, and others look at me with awe and wonder on their faces. Then, one with a gold and silver horn-I think she's the leader- slowly walks towards me.
"Who are you and where did you come from?" It asks. I jumped at the sound of its calm voice. I quickly look at Connor, and I can tell he didn't hear the unicorn's question.
"I- I'm Ally and this is Connor. We come from a local City just outside of the forest." I reply, trying to keep my voice steady. She looks at me with disbelief, but then it quickly switches to shock and . . . recognition?
"Lily and Hazel. I should have known." She says in a whisper.
"Known... what?" I ask with a befuddled look on my face. She smiles and laughs softly. The unicorn's laugh is unsurprisingly sweet.
"You need something from me. Hazel told me you would." she says wisely.
"Hazel? Also, I'm sorry but who are you?" I ask.
"Oh goodness! I am so sorry! My name is Amethyst." she shrieks.
"It's ok, I do that all the time. So what's the thing we need from you?" I ask. She holds up a small bottle with her tail cupped around it.
"What's that?"
"This? Oh, this is just a potion." Amethyst says.
"A potion? Who gave you that?" I ask, appalled.
"Why, Hazel of course! I have never handled a potion before, so this has been a very exciting and nerve-racking experience for sure." She says, half sarcastically. I can't help but chuckle.
"You mentioned we needed something from you. Is that it?" I ask.
Amethyst looks around the area before turning back to me. She nods slightly.
"So what do we have to do to get it?"
"Well, it's kind of a long story essentially. I need you to get my tiara from the water.. . . It was dropped after doing a ceremony of sorts. That is all you need to know."
"Can I... talk this over with Connor?" Amethyst looks at me with an amused expression on her face.
"You may. I don't need to give you permission to talk to your. . . partner." She says with a wink. I feel my face turning red as I turn away from her towards Connor. Connor looks at me with one eyebrow up and eyes wide, expecting an answer. I clear my throat.
"We need to get some tiara from a body of water." I tell him.
He rolls his eyes as he sighs.
"Fine. What do we get, then?" he asks reluctantly.
"Your just assuming we get something in return? What if it was just a deed of kindness?" I ask him suspiciously. His eyes widen innocently.
"I'm just kidding, Connor. We get a potion." I reassure him. I can't help but chuckle.
"A potion? What even is it for?" He asks.
"I can't answer that question, possibly because I don't know yet. Let's just get on with it." I say with a smile. Connor nods. I turn around and I walk towards Amethyst.
"So are you going to do it or not?" she says. I nod.
"Brilliant!" she says as she beams. As I she gallops around the pool of water in triumph, I remove my sweatshirt, and I plunge in the deep depth of the waterfall.
