Connor looks completely shocked.
"Are-are you sure Ally?" He asks. I don't have enough time to answer when he interrupts himself. "Of course you are. That would make sense wouldn't it? I mean, both of our mothers have disappeared, and there were two women there besides Hazel and another woman just like her. But why?" He asks.
"That is one question I can't answer just yet, Connor. That other woman who looks like Hazel is Lily. She is an ally, and the other woman we are supposed to save." I say. Connor sighs, both in pain, and relief that one question was answered.
"Right. That's one we need to figure out." He says.
"Is there anything I can do to help?" I ask. Connor looks in my eyes.
"Ally, I would be a straight up fool to ask you to help me. I know it's under your good heart to help people, but you shouldn't when suffering a loss yourself. We are both in a terrible situation, and I couldn't ask you to do anything for me. The most we can do for each other is to understand that we are both under hard times. The most we can do is to care for each other." Connor finishes. I understand every single word he says. I nod.
"Ok. just remember I'm here for you. Always." I say. He takes my hand and tears fill his eyes. No one could have expected a boy as strong as him to cry, but I could only watch him as tears started to crawl down his face. He nods his head and stands up, releasing his grip on my hand. Then he looks down on it, rubbing my fingers.
"Always," He starts. "Where did you get that ring?"
"I found it on my nightstand. Did you find one?" I ask, curious.
He holds up his hand and it looks like there is a sun that is an ombre of red, orange, and yellow. I nod in response.
Connor walks towards the door and slides his feet into his shoes. He then opens the door and walks out of it, closing the door shut behind him.
I sigh and start to clean up the only dish I've really used so far. Then, I scavenge for some spare change and ride my bike to the nearest library: Washington Heights.
The stores here in New York are pretty big. Most of these stores are vintage buildings from the late nineteenth century to the early twentieth century. Their extraordinary mandala's littered the stores. That was actually one of the best parts of going shopping.
Believe it or not. History was always something that fascinated me, and seeing old mandala's that existed more than one hundred years ago is both shocking, and fascinating. I remember when me and mom used to go and watch the Macy's thanksgiving parade every year since we moved.
Dad used to put it on in Arizona and get dressed up as whatever they had on the screen. It would be as though my dad was on the Tony awards and had so many clothes changes, but obviously, not the most fashionable clothing out there. I used to shriek with laughter. He was practically the whole parade by himself!
Well, not anymore. I have a feeling though, that my mom and dad have been contacting each other somehow. I don't know why I have this feeling, but it's just a feeling. And I could be entirely wrong. I think about all of this as I absentmindedly parked my bike on the rack and I securely lock it.
I walked in through the glass doors and stared in awe as I always am at the paintings and murals next to the lines of books. It smells of new and old material.
I go to my favorite section: history, and look for a book I haven't read yet. As I'm looking, I see a leather bound book that seems vintage. The older ones are the best of the collections in the library.
The mature information is incredibly interesting, especially to read about their way of life one hundred to two hundred years in the past. I pick it up and surprisingly, it is lighter than it looks. I open to the very first page and I immediately see. . a letter? I immediately gasp at what I see.
Dear Ally,
I'm glad you found this. You must be asking how I know you are reading this. Well, here's your answer: destiny. Please read the clues exceptionally carefully. I have found out the second part of the Crew of Doom's code. I wrote down exactly what they said. Here it is:
In the castle there is a fire
And the Crew of Doom has a great desire
Up five feet and down ten
There you are in the den
Get rid of men's souls, we shall outsmart
The two mothers will burn, through their flesh and their aching heart.
Two kids shall start on June eighth
They shall soon face Crew of Doom's wraith
Take the souls of two whom the young look up towards.
Demolish them and have their heads be their own.
Ally, you and Connor need to look and understand this clearly. The souls of the ones you love most are in jeopardy. If you fail, the world fails. If you fail, these souls fail. No one else is able to see this book. I wish you good luck.
Lily
I hurriedly flipped through the rest of the pages to find gruesome pictures of. . .
THE CREW OF DOOM!
