The school day finally ends with the ringing of the final bell. I meet Connor, Melinda, and Kylie in the hall, getting ready to leave the building.
I meet them by Melinda's locker, and I tell them about my meeting with Mrs. DeFelice. They walk me to my homeroom where I knock on the door and Mrs. DeFelice lets me in. She beckons me to a chair facing her at a big round table. We sit down, and she folds her hands and places them on the table.
"I have been increasingly worried about your performances in your other classes, Ally." she begins with great concern behind those big doe eyes.
"It's just... schoolwork. Nothing really." I say with an attempted smile. She gazes at me and I start to falter.
"Ally, I know you more than you think. I'm not saying you have to tell me what's going on, but could you at least admit something happened? Pretending won't work any longer. You've got to get a move on" Mrs. DeFelice says. I can see the bright blue concern in her eyes still. She does look a lot like Lily. and sounds like her.
"Well. . I don't think I want to admit that something happened." I say.
"What do you mean, Ally?" she asks.
" It's a bit. . . complicated."I reply. Mrs. DeFelice's face softens.
"Well, then I hope you can work it out. I know you have the mental strength to work whatever it is, out. I believe in you." my teacher says. She nodded her head in dismissal, and I left the classroom, shutting the door behind me. I can't shake off the feeling that something is terribly wrong...
