Vincent and Rin secretly made it into the city.
"We'll wait near the main gate just in case of an emergency. Be careful." A WPO Lieutenant explained to Rin and Vincent as they exited the car.
"Are you sure you're okay to do this? You're not tired or anything?" Vincent asked.
"I'm perfectly fucking fine, Vincent. We're this close to getting Axel back, nothing is going to stop me," Rin aggressively exclaimed, marching into the city in flames.
Vincent quickly followed and soon enough the two became surrounded by fire and smoke.
"So Axel was last seen in Belkin, As much as I think we should go together, shouldn't we head back to the palace?" Vincent asked as the two stormed through ruins, trying to avoid altercations with soldiers.
"From what we all saw, I think the palace is being protected by whatever shield my mom left... I'm also positive that she's perfectly fine, being my mom and all," Rin explained.
"I agree... In that case, let's head to Belkin," Vincent said.
The duo performed well in encounters against soldiers with the help of fellow WPO soldiers.
They fought their way vigorously through countless mobs and stopped in Downtown Crescent City to replenish their energy.
"We just have to make it past this wall... I think if we head to the high school we can climb it easily," Rin explained, examining the wall dividing the main city and Belkin.
"I'm surprised Belkin hasn't been touched. It's almost like they particularly avoided it and kept the battle in the main district," Vincent explained.
"Over there!" Incendium soldiers shouted as they ran and shot towards Vincent and Rin.
Vincent quickly formed a shield of darkness and covered the two of them, "Go, Rin! I'll hold them off. You need to get to Axel!"
"But what if it's too dangerous?" Rin asked.
"I think you can handle yourself!"
Rin began running away and towards the high school, "I meant for yourself!"
Vincent laughed and cast the shield towards the soldiers, immediately taking them down, "Now I don't know about that one, I'm pretty weak..." Vincent said sarcastically as he charged towards more soldiers.
Rin ventured through the back streets of Crescent City, taking out small mobs of soldiers and aiding WPO soldiers in need. She eventually found an easy opening into the Belkin District and carefully navigated her way through.
"Vincent was right... This place is mostly untouched..." Rin walked through the dark and destroyed Belkin.
She continued her walk through the district and examined the worn-down town.
"It's been a while since I've been here... if there's one place I know where to look though, is mom's old house," Rin said, giving herself the confidence to find Axel.
As she approached the street where her mom used to live, the smoke and dust grew thicker.
"Why is there so much more smoke?" Rin asked herself, coughing and panting from the debris.
Meanwhile, Vincent tried catching up to Rin by entering Belkin but was met with a pleasant surprise.
"Vincent? What are you doing here?" Asuna approached Vincent from behind.
"Asuna? Is that really you?" Vincent asked, unable to recognize the voice.
Vincent rubbed his eyes as Asuna got closer. The smoke slowly began to fade from Vincent's vision as she approached.
