"Unlike major expeditions, each scout will only be 40 meters apart. A wide scale formation is essential, but we don't want to be further away from each other especially when we have a cart in the middle that is protected by only two people."
Mike showed everyone the finalized formation of each member. The cart or the wagon which will be assigned to Gunther and Gelgar will be on the most secured place of the formation.
The soldiers were not that numerous since the mission involved 12 members including you, but it was said that Commander Erwin preferred it to be that way since the most competent soldiers of the regiment are involved and the mission takes place between the Krolva and Utopia district which is not that far from the walls.
A couple of days ago, a scout who was patrolling the walls from above spotted a red smoke signal being fired, which was then alerted to the Commander. The commander knew that it was a gamble, but he decided to proceed with the mission because aside from the fact that he wanted to rescue the people left, he wanted information on how they survived and if they had intel around the titan territory.
The survivors, without knowing how many, were estimated to be more than twenty which is why each of the scouts carried a spare horse. The cart will be for the additional survivors rescued and for the corpses as well.
The goal was to proceed with the mission two days after our stay on the fortress but the Captain and Mike both agreed to proceed immediately since it would be unfortunate if the rest of you would reach the place without any survivors left because of the titans or starvation. Everyone knew that people react differently when they haven't had a decent meal, and some would be desperate and resort to unimaginable actions.
You were placed on the left center wing of the formation which was a few meters ahead Gunther and Gelgar's position. Mike, along with Eld and Levi were positioned at the front wing since they were the most adaptable when it comes to the open formation and they were the best options to have little to no casualties since titan slaying is without a doubt their forte.
"Prepare your horses, we're going to start after 15 minutes." Levi informed the scouts as all of them headed towards the stables. You grabbed Spirit and adjusted the grip to tighten the straps.
All of you headed towards the gates of Krolva district and as everyone were gathered together, you felt excitement. Not because it would be your first time seeing a mindless titan but because it would be your first time outside the cramped walls. You kept your emotions to yourself since your comrades would think of you as psychotic if seeing the unfamiliar landscape filled with titans satisfies your curiosity.
The gates opened and you were now heading towards titan territory.

Levi informed the rest of you beforehand that the time of arrival towards the destination would be around 15 to 20 minutes.
Although the extent of the travel is not that distant, the squad were to run into an abandoned village and a small-scale forest so running into a titan is not a surprise since they could use the environment to suddenly appear and cause havoc. The smoke signals will also be used which is convenient.
