Chapter 14: Gateway towards time

It feels good to be back in training after a few weeks being on a break. Although your body was still adjusting, you couldn't help but show off a little as you swung through the forest with your ODM gear. Eld, Gunther, Petra, and Oluo were happy to have you back and Eld commented how your skills have not diminished despite being absent for the past few weeks. They had no idea that you went on the underground since it was a classified mission where only a few from the higher ups were aware of, and they were only informed that you had family matters to attend to. Speaking of the higher ups,  you received a few criticisms from Levi to take it easy as he called you a little scoundrel who just couldn't wait to get killed.

After two days, your wound healed quickly and the stitch was now removed, all thanks to the antibiotic that Hange gave you a week ago. Currently, you were now on the training grounds with the Special Operations squad since the formation for the 57th expedition outside the walls will be discussed. The expedition takes place next week and the preparations made everyone, especially the higher ups busier than usual.

When Levi arrived to discuss about it, your temper escalated as he brought the news that you were placed on a different formation from them. 

"What do you mean I won't be with you guys?" You didn't bother hiding the bitterness on your tone. They placed you on the Special operations squad yet they won't include you on their formation. 

"Erwin placed you in the center command, alongside with him and Dietrich."

"Did he at least mention the reason why?"

"I suppose its for your own good."  

"Are you sure that there aren't any other reasons? Like how one's certainty is shaken by a recent member who recently joined the survey corps and considering the fact that she came from the inner walls, she could possibly be an espionage." You glanced at Eren for a moment and returned your gaze at Levi. 

It was possible that they did not permit your presence along Levi's squad because of your origin. Even if you despised being associated with the Beaumonts, you were still of noble blood. It was possible that keeping you beside Erwin could possibly make him deduce the possibilities why your father wanted you in the survey corps. Was it to spy on Eren? To endanger him? Or perhaps there are possibilities? It frustrated you knowing you can't predict how Erwin came up with the plan to place you in the center command. 

"If you're accusing any of us, I suggest you give up and stop acting like a stuck up bitch." You almost scoffed at his response. It was evident that the Captain had a bad day as his tone didn't bother hiding his irritation and displeasure but you were displeased with the situation as well. 

"Captain, I'm merely inquiring about the details of my placement." 

"Then I suppose I'm not entirely obliged to disclose further information to you." 

"I suppose, since I doubt the commander allowed to disclose it to you as well." You heard someone from the squad gasp and you were certain it was Petra as her face was painted with shock. You saw how the thread of patience that Levi held a while ago completely vanish. Although he refused to acknowledge that you were right, you saw how your words affected him even in the slightest, and this humored you since you knew how Levi trusted Erwin with almost everything.
