Chapter 17: The Beast

Just a quick notice that the chapter might be quite fast-paced, but do understand that I don't want to include every detail of the anime since it wouldn't correspond to the chapter plan that I prepared for reader's scenes and other occurrences.

Nanaba and Mike instructed the rest of you to prepare yourselves to proceed towards the nearest settlements to warn the villagers about the breach and to evacuate them towards the inner walls for safety. Aside from that, the inspection of every inch of the wall to determine where the breach is located will be done afterwards. Since there was no time to switch into the gear, the whole castle was in chaos and there were some cadets who were panicking. You heard Mike take off as he announced his departure and headed towards the nearest village alone. 

You weren't better than them since you were still in shock that Wall Rose has been ruptured. How was that even possible? How come that none of you heard the impact of it? Seeing that all of Eren's comrades are here, in one place could only mean one thing. The Armored titan and the Colossal titan wasn't among the 104th batch of cadets.

"Hey, it's not the time to be preoccupied. We need to head out. " You heard Reiner call you and Connie from behind.

"I know, I'm just...really surprised."  You replied.

"From the south...Its where my village is l-located." You heard Connie mumble in fear. The poor kid barely registered what happened to his hometown which is why you approached him, hoping that he would listen to you and concentrate on the mission.

"Connie!" Still no response. "Connie!" You slightly slapped his cheek as he still refused to focus on the situation at hand. "Connie, listen to me. You're going to head out there, towards your village and you're going to find survivors, and get them to safety. You understand?" He looked like he was about to cry but he slowly nodded his head. "You understand right? That's why you have to regain your composure. You can do that, right?"

"Yes. Thank you." He gave you a small smile and proceeded to his horse and prepared for the departure. As you were on your way to your own horse, you surprisingly tripped on a sack of hay as your thoughts were preoccupied by the sudden occurrences. Luckily, Reiner caught your arm which prevented your face from falling directly on the ground. Before you could thank him, the sudden jolt of energy that surged within you was overwhelming that you slapped his arm away and ran towards the opposite direction, leaving Reiner to glance at your direction with worry and shock.

What the hell was that?! What the hell did you see? Why was he.....why was he...

Bloody hell, the traitors are just inches away from you and remembering your orders, you were in no instance to discuss this with anyone except Mike. Unfortunately, Mike has already left the area and you were now left with his second in command which was Nanaba. Should you tell her? No. As much as you wanted to, Erwin's orders were absolute and the last thing you wanted to do was to disobey him. But what if Reiner and Hoover would transform? What if all of them died because you refused to open your mouth and tell them?

You have to find Nanaba before they could transform. You absolutely needed to tell her and head back towards the inner walls to inform Erwin. But wait, what if you make things worse by telling her? What if they panic and it would cause everyone's death? What if-

"Belova, you're coming with me." Nanaba interrupted your thoughts which made you force yourself to calm down and think things through. You have to trust me, the commander's voice echoed in your mind. Fine then, you decided to head towards Mike's location, then proceed towards the inner walls to report to Erwin and Levi (as per Erwin's orders), so that Mike can then proceed towards his squad and protect them. As much as you wanted to inform all of the people surrounding you right now, you were in no position to relay the message. As instructed by the commander, you were to be given the ODM gear when emergencies arise and considering that this is one, Nanaba handed it to you without hesitation. The more soldiers that could fight the titans, the better.
