I had woken up screaming. I sat bolt upright, shaking uncontrollably. "Hey hey Kaitlyn breath" Chase said.
Tears were running down my face as I shook. I looked around the room, reassuring myself I was here.
I had been dreaming about that man. He was still staring at me with his dead eyes, haunting my every move.
Chase had his hand on my back as he rubbed soothing circles around it.
"What the fuck Kaitlyn! What happened?" Chase asked me in shock. "I woke up to you screaming in your sleep."
"It- it was him" I said through shaking breaths. "The man you killed, I saw him."
Chase let out a breath. "Kaitlyn the man's dead. You don't have to worry about him."
"No it's not that" I told him. "It's his stare. His blank eyes as he laid there dead. It's just-" I couldn't say anymore as I began to cry and shake harder.
"Kaitlyn stop crying" he said as he took my chin in his hand. He turned my head to face his.
He stared into my eyes and I stared back. His piercing black eyes seemed to be filled with confusion and concern. "Calm down" he told me. I took long and steady breaths until I finally settled.
"Are you good now" Chase asked. I nodded my head. I didn't really think I was good but at least I was calmer.
I shakily laid back down on the bed. I turned away from him and stared at the wall. I would just stay awake until morning. I was scared to fall back asleep and get trapped in that memory again.
I stared at the wall for about ten minutes, willing myself to stay awake. It was hard to not fall asleep, but when I felt myself drifting off, I would think about the man's eyes and it would instantly make me awake again.
"Kaitlyn go to sleep" Chase said out of nowhere. I didn't know how he knew I was still awake since I was turned away from him.
"I'm not falling asleep" I told him. "I can't fall asleep."
"Yes you can, just do it" he said. "Chase I can't." My voice cracked as I said those words. God why did I have to cry so much?
"Don't fucking cry again" he said annoyed. "Shut up Chase" I said as I curled up in a ball. "I'm not going to sleep so stop asking."
"Fine go ahead" Chase said. "But you damn right better not be tired tomorrow" he warned.
I didn't say anything else. I was sure I wasn't going to sleep anytime soon. I never wanted to see the man's face again.
...
I had not slept the entire night. My body screamed at me to fall asleep but I wouldn't let myself.
I was still lying in bed when I heard Chase shuffle and sit up. I turned over to see him.
He rubbed his eyes tiredly and looked at me. "Did you fall asleep?" he asked. Woah. His morning voice sounded deep and husky.
"No" I said as I sat up. I got out of bed and went into the washroom. When I got in, I looked at myself in the mirror.
I had dark circles under my eyes and I looked terrible. I took a brush and combed it through my hair. Once I was done I went back into the room to see Chase changing clothes.
"Go eat something" Chase told me. "I don't want you to be hangry today."
"I don't get hangry" I said as I walked out of the room. I got down stairs and into the kitchen. God I felt so tired. When I entered, Ryker and Ivy were sitting at the counter.
