It had been a couple hours since everything had happened.
I was still lying in bed with Chase, his arms wrapped around me. I hadn't fallen asleep yet but that was the point. I willed myself to stay awake, even though all I wanted to do was shut my eyes and sleep.
I couldn't actually see Chase but I prayed that he was asleep. By his deep breathing I could tell that he had passed out a long time ago.
I could tell you that I waited so long because I wanted to make sure that Chase was fully asleep. But the truth was that I was scared. I was scared that something was going to go wrong. It always did.
I was going to escape tonight. Yes I've tried a million times and they've all failed but another attempt isn't going to hurt. And besides, this time I would be cautious.
"Chase?" I whispered. No response. "Chase?"
He didn't even move. Hopefully he was a heavy sleeper. I reached down and touched his arm. Again no movement.
My heart hammered in my chest as I lifted his arm off my waist, placing it down gently on the bed. I scooted away slowly. I moved to the edge of the bed and placed my feet on the floor. The tile felt like ice against the bare skin of my feet.
I steadily stood off of the bed. My breath caught in my throat as Chase shifted, turning around to face the other way. Thank God he wasn't awake.
I crept slowly towards the door. Here is the part where I thought my plan would falter. The door was closed meaning I would have to open it. I grabbed the door handle and turned the knob. I flinched as it made a click as I rotated it all the way. I looked back at Chase to see him still sleeping.
I opened the door just enough so that I could slip through. I stepped in the hallway to find it luckily empty. I turned back around and shut the door as quietly as I could.
Once the door was closed, I let out a long breath. The hard part was over. Now all I had to do was go downstairs and get out of the house. Maybe I could do this.
I tiptoed down the hall, trying to make as little noise as possible. I shivered as I walked. It was freezing. I was still only in my bra and underwear.
I looked up ahead and saw that both Ivy and Ryker's room and Alyssa and Hayes's room were closed. I walked past their doors, slowing my pace as not to wake them. I finally made it to the steps and crept down.
What would I do after I got out of the house? You would think I would have thought of this while I was up for hours but I hadn't. I couldn't run to the other mansions because Chase told me there were more Mafia people in them. Unless that was just a lie to get me to not try anything.
I got to the bottom of the steps and looked around. Still no one in sight. I could see the massive entrance door from here. I was so close.
I walked over to the door and stared at it. It looked pretty heavy. A rush of adrenaline shot through me as I put my hand on the door handle. This was it. I was finally going to be free.
Just as I was about to turned the handle, I heard footsteps approach me. I whirled around to find Hayes standing infront of me, pointing a gun at my head.
"What the fuck Kaitlyn!?" he whisper-yelled at me. I stared at him in disbelief. "I thought you were an intruder" he sighed as he put his gun away.
No no no no no. I was so fucking close. Escape was just in my grasp only to be pulled away so suddenly again.
"I'm sorry" I blurted out, figuring coming up with excuses was the only way to get out of this. "I never should have tried anything. I'm so sorry, please don't tell Chase."
