Chapter Twenty Two - Take me to the Dance floor

"Oh come on Annie, cheer up." Tanya cooed.

"I really should visit an employment agency. I can't afford to wait anymore."

"Why don't you apply for scholarship? You are smart and I'm sure you would have colleges lined up for you." Neil suggested.

"If you want, I could talk to my dad." Adam added.

"Why haven't you talked to him yet, Adam? Don't you want Anne to be happy?" Tanya scolded Adam.

"Well, I wanted to ask her first."

"You guys are too cute." Tanya squealed and Anne started to blush. Neil burst out laughing seeing Adam uncomfortable.

"Come on Tanya. She hasn't agreed to be my girlfriend yet."

"Oh she will, you will see."

"Guys I am literally right here, you know?"

"We are getting tired of waiting now. You are so mean." Tanya whined. Anne's phone started to ring.

Anne excused herself and went to the balcony to receive the call.

"Hello."

"Hello, may I speak to Miss Anne Miller?" A sweet voice spoke.

"Yes, this is she."

"Hello, Miss Miller. I am Eva Lynch, calling from Smith & Co. to tell you that you have been selected for assistant position."

"Oh?"

"Yes. Please come by at our office tomorrow at 2 o' clock so that we can take care of the formalities and brief you."

"Okay. Thank you so much." Anne said , finally getting her voice back.

"See you tomorrow."

Anne blinked four times before she could get a hold of herself. She had thought she blew it. She turned around to see Adam behind her, looking concerned.

"Is everything..." his voice got stuck and his breath whoosed out as Anne jumped on him to hug him.

"I got it, I got the job."

Before Adam could react, she kissed him and he was lost.

After constant begging and pleading from Tanya, Anne gave in and they all decided to go clubbing. Anne wore a black lace dress with boat neck which reached her lower thigh. Tanya wore dark purple dress with white rhinestones on the waistline. Adam and Neil picked them up. Adam could barely stop stealing glances at the way Anne looked.

"Dude, stop drooling!" Neil chuckled and joined Tanya in the backseat.

Anne gave Adam a smirk, giving him a taste of his own medicine. Adam gulped and opened the door for her. As she got inside the car, he had a whiff of her smell. It was not overpowering smell, but it was definitely intoxicating him.

He let out a muffled groan, exhaled and got on the driver's seat. He could hear Tanya and Neil snickering at her reaction.

"Get it together, man." He thought to himself and gave a confident smile to Anne. "You look beautiful." "...and delicious." His inner voice completed the thought.

Anne tucked her hair behind her ear and avoided his eyes. The butterflies in her tummy started fluttering again.

"Um.. you look good too."

"Uh... sorry for disrupting your coochie-coo moment, but we gotta leave now." Neil made a face, "or I'm gonna hurl." he finished in a lower voice.

Tanya hit his arm and told him to behave. They really acted like siblings sometimes.

Adam broke the awkwardness by stepping on the gas. Anne's shyness was like a fuel to his cockiness.

"Come on Anne, it's celebration time. Chug it down."

"Don't worry, I'll take care of you if you do lose control."

"No offense, but you are the one I do not trust for the job." Anne smiled teasingly and gulped down the shot."

"One more." Neil pushed the shot glass towards her but Adam pulled her away.

"No. You need to pace yourself. You gotta go to the office tomorrow."

"Buzzkill." Tanya pouted.

"He's right though. Wouldn't want to go to work with a hangover."

"These two are the worst." Neil rolled his eyes. "Made for each other."

Adam chuckled and asked Anne to join him in the dance floor, holding out his hands and bowing like a gentleman.

Anne could not help but let out a giggle and join him. He looked too cute to handle.

"You know I dance like a monkey on steroids, right?"

"I beg to differ." Anne said, his hands on her waist. "And what I said earlier, you do look incredibly beautiful tonight. I'm barely getting a hold of myself."

Anne snuggled up to him and they started swaying to the music. The music was upbeat and their dance looked out of place but they didn't have a care in the world.
