Chapter Nineteen - The Dilemma
"Maybe my CV is not just good enough."
Anne had applied for various job positions in various companies but she hadn't heard back from any of them.
"You're joking, right? You are the smartest one in our lot. If it weren't for you, I would not have cleared my exams." Tanya jumped into the bed where Anne was looking like a mess. Her hair was unkempt and she was still in her pyjamas.
"The stupid companies sure don't think so."
"Well that's what they are. Stupid. You need to think high of yourself so that others can see you for who you are. Maybe you are overqualified for those jobs anyways."
"How did you grow up all of a sudden? Getting all 'motivational speaker' on me."
"What can I say? I am wise beyond my years." Tanya broke out a giggle and Anne could not help joining in with a fit of laughter herself.
"There you go. Much better. Now get up and take a shower while I straighten up your room."
"I don't want to." Anne whined.
"I will take you out for an ice-cream." Tanya coaxed in a sing-song voice.
"Okay mom." Anne dragged herself out of her bed and went for the shower. As soon as the bathroom door closed, Tanya called up Neil.
"Oh hey Tanya. Wait, Adam's here too. Let me put you on speaker."
"Guys, Anne is boring the crap out of me. We gotta find her a job."
"How? It's not like we own a company." Neil shrugged at Adam.
"Get her to leave the house first. Otherwise she'll get depressed." Adam told Tanya.
"I know, right? I think some of her depression is rubbing off on me too."
At that, the boys looked at each other and laughed hysterically.
"What the hell guys? Why doesn't anyone take me seriously?" Tanya pouted a little.
"No offence, babes. You are more bubbly than a bottle of soda." Neil added.
"Did you just compare me with a beverage?"
"Yes I did." Neil raised his arm towards Adam for a high five but Adam did not return it.
"Will you guys cut it out now? Just meet us at Basement cafe in about fifteen minutes." Adam reached for his car keys.
"It's gonna take an hour." Tanya replied curtly, still pissed off at being called a soda.
Adam rolled his eyes.
"Okay, take your time princesses."

When Anne and Tanya reached the cafe, the boys had still not arrived. When Tanya took out her phone to give them a call, there was a text from Neil.
"Adam's junk of a car broke down. We'll be late."
"Seems they are gonna be late. Let's drink some beer till then." Tanya suggested with a twinkle in her eye.
"I don't like the look on your face but I'm too blue to argue. Hey, maybe I can become a poet."
"Yeaaaah, I don't think so darling. I'll go get the first round."
They didn't even realize when they got tipsy and started playing spin-the-bottle with two random guys who had joined them. When the guys showed up, they got furious and literally pulled off the guys from their table.
