Chapter Twenty - Home Alone

"Guys, we have something to say to you."

"What?" Adam and Neil didn't even look away from the TV screen.

"We are very sorry for being careless... and we want you to behave normal again." Tanya said it in monotone.

"And... we promise not to be reckless from now on." Anne added.

"You know we were not being possessive right? There can be perverts lurking around."

"Yeah yeah you're worried about us and stuff now scoot... and gimme the remote... Adam stop brooding!" Tanya jumped in between Adam and Neil and Anne just stood there awkwardly fidgeting with her clothes.

"Ahem..I'll get you girls some water." Adam appeared uncomfortable too.

Anne sat down in the adjacent couch and pretended to watch TV.

"Here." Adam handed her the glass of water. Anne gulped the lump in her throat and hoped her hands would stop trembling. It wasn't like she had never touched him but this time, she was jolted by an energy she never felt before. Anne drank the cold water in one big sip. She definitely was parched.

Tanya looked at the glass of water in front of her and said to Adam, "You do know we aren't drunk, right? We are just a bit tipsy."

"I know. Sorry for caring." Adam said nonchalantly and Tanya stuck her tongue out.

"Can you give me some time?" Anne texted Adam.

Adam's face lighted up reading that text. It sounded hopeful.

"Of course. It was sudden, huh?"

As Anne received the text, Adam winked at her and gave her a sweet smile. Anne felt as if her heart skipped a beat. They all were watching 'Transformers' now, but Anne could not focus on the movie. Her mind was replaying a movie on its own. The flashbacks in her life. How she had been disappointed once before, trying to fall in love with Adam. Now that so much had changed, could she trust him now? She stole a glance at Adam who was looking intently at her. There it was again, the fluttering feeling at the pit of her stomach. She loved him too. She knew she did. But what if it didn't work out? Would she lose her best friends? She needed someone to talk to. She was with the three people she could ever talk to, yet she was all alone.

Tanya sensed the vibes in the room and elbowed Neil.

"Hey, can you drop me off? I need to go."

"What? But the movie isn't even over yet!"

Tanya gestured towards Anne and Adam with her eyes and Neil understood she wanted to give them some alone time.
