Chapter Thirty-Two  - Stroking the Ego

"So, a meeting is scheduled for 8 p.m. tonight with our client from Delta Co. It's a dinner meeting and I expect you to dress accordingly." David told Anne over the phone.

"Do I need to confirm it with them?" Anne got her pen and notepad ready to mark the appointment.

"No, I just got off the phone with them. Be sure to bring their file along with you."

"Anything else?"

"No. That would be all." David hung up abruptly.

Just then, her phone buzzed.

 Hey beautiful. Thinking about me?

It was a text from Adam.

She did not have a heart to say she was so swamped with work, she did not even have time to think about him. So she just texted back.

"Always. I love you."

"Guess what? I'm coming back."

She could barely contain the excitement but knew better than to get her hopes up.

She rang him up immediately.

"Hey." He sounded cheerful, not uptight and burdened like he had been the last time she had visited him.

"Don't just 'hey' me, care to go into details? How long are you going to be here for, or are you coming back for good?" Anne could not keep herself from getting hopeful.

Tell me you won't leave me again.  She didn't say.

"Okay, so dad is back and he has no traveling scheduled for anytime soon. I probably will be back for a good while. I am packing my stuff."

"Wait. When are you coming?"

"I'll reach at about half past six. Thankfully, dad decided I needed a break. I'm 90 percent sure mom made him do it."

"Tell your mom I love her." Anne could feel her grin start to hurt her cheeks.

"I sure will. I can't wait to get back and see you and kiss you and.."

"Uh...uh... now don't go all NSFW on me." Anne whisper-yelled. "Just come safely."

"I will. And don't tell Neil and Tanya yet."

"You wanna give them a surprise?"

"No," He drawled out. "If they know I'm back, they won't leave us alone."

"Adam!" She scolded. "Now that's mean of you."

"I don't care. I just want some alone time with you, you know what I mean?" He said suggestively.

"Go back to your packing. My boss is giving me the stink eye."

"I swear I'm gonna punch that boss of yours someday."

Anne giggled at his annoyance.

"He is a giant and will probably get you on your knees by merely staring at you."

"Now that's exaggerating." He raised his eyes.

"Of course I'm my love. You are the strongest guy on the planet."

"Even though I know you are just stroking my ego, I'll take it. See you soon baby."

Her desk phone rang.

"Got to go. See ya." She hung up, sighed and answered the phone.
