Chapter Twenty Five - Taming the Beast
"You are a strong girl." Adam said to Anne. They were still lying on her bed, their finger intertwined with each other. "The way you handle yourself, despite everything happening in your life. You act way too matured for your age."
"I'm not anything special, Adam. I am also living my life, one day at a time."
"But the grace with which you handle situations is really admirable. If I were you, I would probably be holed up in a crack den or something like that. I would not have any dignity or self-respect left. Nothing was handed down easily to you, and I played a major role in screwing up your already fucked up life." Adam sounded repentant.
"Shut up already. I have forgiven you for whatever happened in the past. I have moved on from that incident. Don't keep reminding me, and please stop punishing yourself with the memory."
"I know," He heaved a sigh. "Why are you like this? So strong, yet so soft. It draws me closer to you every day." A smile curled up Anne's lips. She lifted their hands as if to observe them.
"I wish it never ends."
"I promise it never will." Adam kissed her with passion that was building up inside him. "I promise I will never hurt you, and I won't let anyone hurt you either, even if it is your father."
They were both getting drowsy with sleep. "Aren't you going to change?" Adam asked.
"I was waiting for you to leave."
"You want me to go?" He pouted his lips making the puppy dog face.
Anne giggled. "No, I need you to go." She said, standing up and motioning him to leave.
Adam got up and got close to her in such a swift motion that she let out a small shriek. "You sure? I can make you comfortable." He said, his voice husky, with either sleep, or desire, Anne was not sure.
Anne dropped her gaze. No matter how close they got, Adam managed to intimidate her. Adam tilted her chip up and kissed her again, taking it slow this time. The sound of footsteps up the stairs startled Anne and she pushed Adam into the closet. Just then, the door to her bedroom opened.
"You are still awake? And why haven't you changed yet?" Her mom asked worriedly.
"Oh mom, don't worry too much. You get wrinkles." She tapped her forehead lovingly. "I was getting ready for bed. Goodnight." She kissed her and she retreated to her own room.
After the door was shut, she opened the closet door to find Adam looking at her amusingly.
"What???" She whisper yelled.
"You have changed so much."
"What?"
"You lied to your mum. Lies just roll off your tongue now, don't they?"
"So?" Anne was getting irritated now.
"So... you are probably lying that you need me to go." He started advancing towards her. She had gained back her composure, so she stopped him before he got to her.
She poked his chest with her fingers. "You, mister, need to leave, now."
"Holler if you need me." Adam smirked and left.
Anne changed into her pajamas and went to her mother's room.
"Mom. Can I sleep here tonight?"
"Sure honey."
