Chapter Two- The Determination
She had never realized before, how stubborn she was, until she took upon the challenge to give herself a makeover. For the lack of a mentor to guide her through her journey, she had to depend on whatever lay at her disposal.
Her browsing history was full of searches on diets, exercises, yoga and any other possible ways that would make her lose excess weight. Her whole outlook on life changed. The weighing scale that was stashed away, became her frenemy. The first fifteen pounds were comparatively easy to lose. She had replaced the greasy food with healthier low-fat, low-calorie options. She cut down on fast food and stopped going to the burger joint, no matter how much she craved for the juicy meat. She even became a vegetarian, even after her mother's constant disapproval of it. After some time, she managed to develop aversion to non-vegetarian food.
But no matter how much she controlled on junk food and starchy food, she could no longer seem to shed the next pounds. If she lost a pound today, the next day she would weigh two pounds more. It was as if she had reached a roadblock that no matter how hard she tried, she could not overcome.
Just as she had almost given up on all hopes to become a swan, something happened to motivate her once again. When returning her notes, Adam whispered to her, "Wanna come to my birthday party, Anne?" She just couldn't believe it. Adam probably misread the look on her face, and added, "if you don't, I'd totally understand." All she managed to mutter was a faint 'yes'. He gave her the address and time and sped off with his friends to the cafeteria.
She just stood there bewildered. It wasn't like she even needed to go to the cafeteria since she did not eat anything cooked anyways.
"It must be working." She muttered to herself. Her determination became even stronger now. She had to look good for Adam's party. It was her chance to be socially acceptable. It was not like she wanted to "impress" Adam. She never imagined she had any chance with him anyways. But she wanted to show all the popular ones that she could also be more or less like them.
But it would take extreme measures to get her what she wanted. And she was ready to do anything.
