"Cooper! I'm not kidding it's time to leave" I shout up the stairs to my older brother

"I'm coming" Cooper says as he tries to pull on his jumper as he walks down the stairs almost falling in the process

We walk out of the house and to the bus stop at the top of our driveway "if we missed the bus because of you I'm going to kill you" I say to him and he just laughs

"You'll have to catch me first" he laughs and I smile at him

"What? Like it's hard?"

"Stop quoting girly movies!" Cooper says covering his ears

"You're the one who understood the reference, you dork" I say hitting him in the arm

When we get to the school I meet my best friend Maya at our lockers which are conveniently right beside each others

"Hey Li" Maya says and I smile at her

"Did you study for the History test on the American Revolution today?" I ask her knowing her answer already

"No, but I did watch Hamilton again so I'm definitely going to pass" I smile at her and start quizzing her on it and unsurprisingly she got them all right

"Thank god for Lin Manuel Miranda" I say to her with a laugh and she smiles

"Are you coming to the cheer tryouts today" Maya practically begs me

"I totally would but I have Archery club after school" I say and she fake glares at me

"No you wouldn't" she says and I smile closing my locker

"No I wouldn't"

"You'll see Luke more if you join" she says and I turn to her confused

"But he plays soccer" I say and she laughs at how predictable I can be

"Well the cheer team and soccer team go to the same parties and events" Maya explains "and most of our team have like boyfriends or are close with the guys on his soccer team"

I think about it and shrug

"Maybe, but I still can't go today" I say and she hugs me

"You'll love it"

We're sitting in our homeroom class while the teacher explains about this big trip we have coming up

"This year we have a very big field trip planned" Ms Burke explains "but sadly since it's such a big company we will be visiting, only one class from each year gets to go"

A few people groan while others visibly sink into their seats

"But good news" Ms Burke says "it is your class"

Everyone, including me, cheers at this and I smile at Maya who smiles and puts up her hand

"Where are we going?" She asks the teacher

"Now where's the fun in that" Ms Burke says "you're not finding out where we're going but just know it's in New York and you'll be staying for three nights"
