Aspen came back from the school. She was exhausted. After the students went to their dorms, Aspen went to the kitchen in Avengers tower. She looks into the refrigerator, hoping to find a carton of apple juice. When Aspen closed the refrigerator and turned around, she was face to face with Thadden.
Aspen glared at Thadden. "Aspen", Thadden said.
"Get away from me", Aspen said.
"I just want to talk", Thadden said.
"Well, I don't", Aspen said.
"You seemed to like me when I was in a prison. What changed that?" Thadden asked.
"You lied to me. This whole time, you could've told me the truth, but you didn't. And if you were lying about that then how do I know you weren't lying about wanting to quit HYDRA. Maybe you are a liar. Maybe we're not related", Aspen said.
Thadden grabbed Aspen's arms and teleported. The two of them now stood on what looked like the Empire state building.
Aspen looked down and screamed. Her eyes turned icy blue. She held onto the building. Thadden, however, was able to walk on thin air.
Aspen looks at Thadden. "Bring us back!" She demanded.
"No", Thadden said.
"Dude, I don't feel like ending up like King Kong", Aspen said.
"Do you believe me now?" Thadden asked.
"All this proves is that you're a psycho", Aspen said. Her eyes turned red.
Thadden grabbed Aspen and jumped off the building. Aspen screamed as she clings onto him. Her eyes went back to icy blue. They teleported to a be beach. Aspen pushes Thadden away from her.
"Are you crazy?" Aspen asked with anger.
"I might be", Thadden said. "Is it wrong for me to want to show one of my descendants what I can do".
"It's wrong to try and kill your descendants", Aspen said. "I'm leaving".
"No, you're not", Thadden said and grabbed her wrist. Aspen pushed him away from her.
They teleported again.
Thadden stands on thin air, thousands of feet above the city. He held Aspen. As Aspen looked down, she felt like she was about to have a heart attack.
"Stop! I'm scared of heights, okay? Just take me home!" Aspen begged. She held back the tears that threatened to fall. Thadden could hear Aspen's heartbeat, but he decided not to tell her that.
When they teleported again, they were standing in the kitchen in Avengers tower. Thor, Loki and the Maximoff twins looked at them in shock.
Aspen pushed Thadden away. "What are you trying to accomplish?!" Aspen argued. Her eyes turned red.
"I'm trying to earn your trust! I need you to realize that I'd never hurt you",Thadden said.
"You almost gave me a heart attack today. That is not how you earn someone's trust. I don't know what we are, but we're definitely not family. And I'll never trust you", Aspen said. She walked towards the door. Steve came into the room. He noticed Aspen's uneasy expression.
"Aspen, are you alright?" Steve asked. Aspen doesn't say anything. She was too busy holding back her tears. "Aspen".
"I'm fine", Aspen tries to say as calmly and normal as she could, but her voice started breaking. Her eyes were blue and purple.
Steve looks at Thadden. "What did you do?" Steve asked. The twins, Loki and Thor never heard him sound so angry. Thor and Loki looked with interest. The twins watched awkwardly.
Wanda ate a watermelon out of a bowl. Without looking away from Steve and Thadden, she gave a donut to Pietro. Pietro grabbed the donut without looking away from the scene. He bites into the jelly donut.
Steve looks at Aspen. "Did he hurt you?" Steve asked Aspen.
"No", Aspen said. She looks at Thadden and added, "Not physically". Aspen walked out of the room. When she finally got to her room, Aspen let her tears fall.
Aspen heard a knock at the door. She cautiously opened the door. Aspen sighed in relief when she saw Steve. Aspen wrapped her arms around him and her feet jumped off the ground.
"I would ask if you're okay, but that would be a stupid question, wouldn't it?" Steve asked. Aspen nodded. "Very stupid", she said.
"Do you want to talk about what happened?" Steve asked.
"He scared me today, Steve. For the first time in a long time, I was ready to die", Aspen said.
"Let's get inside", Steve said. He carried Aspen inside and closed the door behind them.
