Chapter Three
Amber sat at the dinner table that night, right across from her parents. She needed to ask them! She wanted to live with Luna, and the only way she could, was if she talked to her parents. And she wanted to do so as soon as possible. The only problem was that she was nervous as hell. They weren't going to like the idea one bit.
"I know you think that, Samantha, but it just won't work."
Amber's parents were busy fighting over something Amber hadn't been paying attention to. Her mind was running through ways to announce she wished to move in with Luna. Should she ask them? Put it in question form? Or should she state it?
"But there is no other way!" Her mother shouted way too loudly.
"Dad? Mom?" Amber interrupted.
Her mother looked over to her and made a sympathetic face. "I'm sorry, dear. Your father brought up this topic and I..."
"Samantha!"
Amber sighed as her mother's head snapped back to glare at her father. What a wonderful family dinner this was.
Without planning, Amber went ahead and said, "Luna has asked me to move in with her."
The both of her parents stared at her as if she wasn't their daughter, but, in fact an alien of some kind. They continued to stare at her in pure silence, and Amber wondered if she was supposed to add on to the sentence. She really wanted them to agree to this. She knew it wouldn't be easy.
Amber found herself exhaling a large breath she had been holding in.
"I...What?" Her father mumbled.
Amber watched her mother reach up to pinch the bridge of her nose as she leaned back in her chair, looking exhausted and irritated at the same time. "Now this is something to argue about."
"Guys! Why do you still hate her? She's my girlfriend, you should be happy for me," Amber told them for the first time ever.
"We should be happy for you?" Her father asked as he set a hard elbow on the table. "That woman ruined our lives, Amber! She took away my wife and my daughter, I will not ever forgive her."
Amber knew he was right. Her father had gotten it the worst. But it had been forever since Luna promised she would be good! What was their deal?
"You forgave her too easily, sweetheart," her mother said to Amber in a smooth voice that Amber knew was forced.
"But she said-"
"I don't give a crap about what she said," her father argued. "Actions speak louder than words, Amber."
Amber threw her hands up in frustration. She then brought them back down against the table, causing a loud thud to ripple throughout the room.
"Amber!" Her mother scolded, but she brushed her off.
"Actions speak louder than words, eh?! Well she hasn't done shit since she left this house!" Amber shouted. This was wrong. So terribly wrong. Luna wasn't getting any credit for the positive actions; just the negative ones.
"Do not cuss at our dinner table, Amber!" Her father yelled, matching her tone.
Amber then laughed viciously and stood from her chair. "Your dinner table?" She said to repeat him once more. "This is Luna's dinner table!"
