Chapter Twenty-Two
"I didn't know about it, I swear. "
Luna didn't look up from the stack of papers she was reading through, infuriating Amber even more.
"Honestly, Luna!" Amber said in an irritated voice, trying to keep the volume at a minimum. The house was packed with people, including the office Luna and her were in.
Luna finally lifted her eyes to Amber. "We'll talk about it later."
From her tone, no arguments were to be made.
Luna had made it clear she was devastated about Amber's mother making a huge scene in the middle of the induction. Amber was only trying to let her know that she had nothing to do with it. If she had known what her mother was planning, she would have warned Luna!
A woman came up to Luna and began speaking of something Amber couldn't hear, forcing Luna to look away from Amber and put her attention elsewhere.
Amber huffed in frustration and bent down to pick up Oliver, who was curled up under Luna's desk.
She stomped out with the dog in her arms, her blood hot. It had only been a day since the induction, and so far, nothing was going right.
Immediately after the crowning, Luna had attacked Amber, claiming Amber had known what her mother was prepared to do and say. Amber was offended and angry over Luna's beliefs. Did she really think Amber would do that to her?
Amber maneuvered her way through the swarms of people in their home. The people consisted of the actual people who lived there, people who worked for the kingdom, construction workers, and visitors curious to meet the new queen and visit the new castle.
The kingdom had decided, and Luna had agreed, that the house needed to be bigger and more exquisite if that was where Luna planned to carry out her duties as queen. This made no sense to Amber since they had once ruled in the same exact house. The size had been enough then. Luna's explanation was that she didn't want to rule in a castle that hadn't changed in forever.
Honestly, Amber was already done with this royalty thing.
She stepped into the kitchen but frowned at the sight. The kitchen was a disaster. Most of it had been torn apart with workers inside fixing it all back up again.
Amber was hungry.
With Oliver burried in her arms, she maneuvered her way around the crowded kitchen, noises of saws, drilling, and building filling her ears.
She stopped before a pantry which was blocked by one of the workers.
"Excuse me!" She shouted over all the chaos.
The man didn't hear her.
Oliver growled in her arms, probably just as irritated as she was.
"Excuse me!" Amber repeated in a louder tone.
The man finally turned and smiled kindly, stepping to the side. "My apologies, ma'am."
She grumbled and reached across him to open the pantry, grabbing a box of crackers.
"What are you doing to the kitchen?" She yelled close to the man's ear so he could hear her question.
He continued to smile. "We're expanding it and changing all the tiles!" He shouted back.
