Chapter Forty

It was not a pleasant taste. Amber swished it around in her mouth some before forcing herself to swallow.

Asher grinned and handed her the cup again.

"More?" Amber groaned, the thick liquid leaving a bitter taste in her mouth.

"More." He was serious.

Amber sighed and took the glass of blood, making herself drink more. Asher was on her case about her not drinking enough blood. Luna bought her packets but she never drank them.

"Your skin already looks better," Asher observed as Amber swallowed the last drop in the glass.

"I'm not pale anymore?"

He hesitated. "You are but not nearly as bad as before."

Asher took the glass from her and Amber watched in horror as he filled it back up.

"Asher! I already drank a pack."

"These packages are tiny, Amber. You need at least a dozen to get back on track."

A dozen!

"Are you some sort of doctor?" Amber asked, glaring at him.

"I don't understand why you don't like blood. As a vampire, you should crave it."

Amber shrugged. "I don't understand it either. It may be because I wasn't born a vampire."

Asher frowned. "Maybe." He walked towards her and handed her the glass.

As she was drinking, Luna entered the kitchen with Eva behind her.

"Amber!" Eva cheered when she saw her. Luna didn't say anything because they weren't on good terms at the moment. Amber was still upset over yesterday and she assumed Luna was, too. Hailey had been real disappointed when Amber told her she couldn't go to the concert and Amber still didn't think it was fair she couldn't go.

"Hello, Eva!"

Eva flashed her a grin while walking. "The cups are right in here, your Majesty," Eva said to Luna, leading her to the other side of the large kitchen.

Amber continued to sip on the blood with Asher watching her closely.

Eva removed several silver champagne glasses from a cabinet and showed them to Luna.

"These are perfect," Luna said as she admired the glasses. "Thank you, Eva."

Eva smiled in response.

Luna looked at the glasses more with a satisfied expression. "Set two in the dining room."

"Yes ma'am," Eva replied before taking two glasses and walking out of the room.

Luna turned around and finally made eye contact with Amber.

"What are those for?" She asked.

Luna brushed a stray black hair out of her face. "Sally and I are having dinner tonight."

Amber nodded and handed her empty glass to Asher. "No more."

"Yes more," he said as he reached into the refrigerator to grab another packet.

"What's going on?" Luna asked, walking closer to them.

"Uh...just drinking some blood."

Asher whirled around. "Luna, Amber hasn't been drinking any."
