Chapter Thirty
Amber stepped into the silver high heels.
She gazed at herself in the full-length mirror, amazed at her reflection. She wore a pale pink dress which puffed out at her hips and fell perfectly down to her feet. Her hair had been wrapped into a gorgeous bun, braids of her brown hair waving into the bun.
It was about time for her and Luna to begin their journey to the city of Unix. She hoped it wouldn't be awkward. Luna had avoided her for the past two days, obviously upset at Amber's decision to go on a vacation with Hailey.
Amber understood that Luna didn't want her to go. She understood why, but Amber simply needed to get away. The trip wasn't about Hailey. They weren't in love. Hailey might have had feelings for Amber still, but Amber loved Luna only.
Amber sighed as she left the room. Luna had already gone, probably in the carriage waiting for Amber.
Amber quickly said goodbye to her parents. The trip wasn't going to be long, so she didn't take much time in saying her goodbyes.
She maneuvered her way out front and spotted the line of carriages once outside. Officials were going to follow and lead them in other carriages in order to keep Luna safe.
Amber approached their carriage which was white with lace curling around the carriage in a pattern. A deep brown horse was connected to it and a person sat in the driving seat outside of the sled, holding onto the reins.
Amber had never been in a carriage before and was excited to try it out. This royalty thing was so foreign to her.
Amber brushed aside the laced curtain and peeked inside. Luna sat in the carriage and in hearing Amber, she glanced her way.
Amber wasn't greeted as she stepped inside and took her seat across from Luna.
"Hey," she said weakly.
Luna looked down at her lap, saying nothing in response.
Amber felt so guilty. She didn't want to fight with Luna or hurt her.
Even if Luna was mad at her, she still looked gorgeous. She wore an exquisite grey dress. The dress wrapped around her breasts then curtained out near her waist, laying on the ground in shining grey waves.
A man's head poked inside the carriage. "Ready, your Majesty?"
Luna nodded and the man pulled away and shouted, "Drive on!"
After a moment, the carriage was in motion and Amber could hear the soft clicking of the horses as they trotted away from the castle.
The two girls sat in awkward silence until Luna at last spoke.
"You look beautiful."
Amber felt a light blush rise to her cheeks. "Thank you. You do, too."
Luna offered a tiny smile before looking out the small window.
Amber frowned, hoping they could somehow eventually break the tension between them.
"We should have brought Oliver with us," Amber said quietly.
"He's in the carriage behind us."
"Oh really?"
Luna nodded silently, keeping her eyes on the window.
An entire hour of silence pursued after that. Amber sat uncomfortably while Luna looked everywhere except in her direction.
Luna wouldn't talk to her about how she was feeling, which irritated her. Instead of giving Amber the silent treatment, she should just speak to her about what was wrong.
