Chapter Fourteen
Before she could blink, the door flew wide open, but to her surprise, no one was revealed. Only emptiness was found through the open doorway.
Amber grew completely confused. Alice was obviously home and had used her powers to open the door. But what was the point of that? Why not answer the door like a normal person?
Amber grumbled under her breath in a quite irritated manner. She was feeling scared and annoyed simultaneously, which was odd.
After a few moments of pure silence, Amber dared to peek her head inside the apartment.
A small area with white walls and mainly grey and blue furniture was all she saw. No Alice.
She was terribly confused and frightened and at a loss of what to do.
Her body tensed uncontrollably as light footsteps patted nearby. A young woman trotted herself into sight. She had long, loose brown hair and tan skin.
In seeing the girl, flashbacks of her visit replayed in Amber's mind. Her threat, their arguing, her leg being cut on the table. She recognized the woman as her one and only aunt.
Alice stared at her in silence, her face expressionless. Laced leggings wrapped around her thin legs and above that, she wore a short, loose, black dress.
Amber wanted to speak. She wanted to scream; to curse at her and beat her into the ground. But she knew she could not. The woman would take her out in seconds.
"What do you want?" Alice suddenly spat.
"I...I want to talk to you."
"Well are you going to stand outside my door or come inside?"
Amber fiddled with her fingers nervously. "Actually, I'd prefer-"
Before she could finish her cowardly sentence, Alice lifted a hand, and with some invisible force, dragged her on inside.
After Amber had stumbled in, the door slammed shut behind her without requiring Alice to touch it at all.
"So what did you come to talk about?" Alice asked with a fake smile on her pearl-pink lips.
"I...I will not break up with Luna," Amber announced, sticking her chest out boldly.
"Then I'll continue to cause little hiccups in your life. Are we done here?"
Amber wanted to compromise with the woman. She did not want her wrath to continue. She just wanted to live happily with Luna.
Alice could do so much, though. Hell, she could have drowned Amber the other day.
"What will it take to get you to leave me alone?"
Alice blinked at her. "I have told you! But you refuse my offer."
Amber could not control the tears which suddenly filled her eyes. She was feeling desperate, hopeless, and defeated. The last thing she wanted was to fall under Alice's power. She wanted to find something to threaten her back with, but was at a loss. She had nothing and saw no ray of hope.
"Awe... are you gonna cry?" Alice teased, walking closer to Amber, who did not flinch.
The woman gripped her chin and lifted her head up. Amber stared up at her silently, narrowing her eyes.
The woman was definitely related to Luna in some ways. Their nose shapes were the same and their jawlines curved perfectly to frame their faces.
Amber must have unconsciously let a tear escape in feeling Alice wipe one away. "It's not that hard, dear. Just break up with her."
