Chapter Nine

Amber awoke to an empty bed. She was used to it, though. Luna always got up early for work and snuck out managing to not wake Amber up. She disliked the weekdays because she didn't get to wake in the arms of her love. But that morning was different. She actually felt a tad relieved to not have Luna with her. She felt guilty, but couldn't help but at the same time feel grateful. Luna had terrified and confused her last night. She really just needed to be alone.

Amber yawned as she flung the sheets off her body. She gave a massive stretch before she slid out of the bed. While Luna was gone at work, Amber usually would do housework. Such as cleaning and washing. She would also go and do errands or pick up groceries. It was the best she could do to return Luna's favor back for all the work she did to keep their house and pay the rent.

Amber sleepily walked to the bathroom in their room. The bathroom door was closed shut with a note tapped on it:

'Morning, baby. I really hope you're not mad at me...I'm sorry. I made you breakfast. You'll need to heat it up. xoxo'

Amber felt her cheeks turn a pink shade. She knew Luna felt bad and was glad she was proving it. She couldn't help but think she needed to apologize as well. She was the one who hadn't told Luna about Alice. She was the one who had back talked her over and over, causing her anger to rise.

Amber stepped into the bathroom and brushed her teeth to remove any morning breath she might have. She then washed her face and pulled her crinkled hair into a ponytail. She left the bathroom and began to make the bed that her and Luna had slept in.

As she folded the sheets up, she heard a thud that came from downstairs. She instantly froze in her position. What was that? She stayed still to listen for any other noise.

After she heard nothing but the aid conditioner humming, she decided the house must have simply made a noise.

She proceeded to make the bed and it wasn't long until another noise was heard.

Amber could feel her pulse racing. Was someone here? Luna would be long gone by now. Maybe she had forgotten something and had stopped by to pick it up.

Amber ran to the doorway and stood by the frame of the room. "Luna?" She called out.

No response was given, only causing Amber to become even more terrified.

Amber jumped as another thump was heard.

She scanned the bedroom she stood in trying to find something she could carry down to protect herself.

She then rushed into the bathroom and grabbed her straightener. It was the strongest thing that first came to her.

Holding the blue iron, Amber slowly entered the hallway. Her heart was racing quickly and she felt terrified. Who was in her house?

Amber made her way down the hall and stepped down the first step.

Thump.

Amber clutched onto the white rail as she heard the next noise. It sounded closer and Amber felt sweat rising on her hairline. She silently scolded herself for not bringing down her phone in case she needed to call the police. It was too late now, though. She was halfway down the stairs.

She clung onto the rail until she reached the last stair. She could barley even think clearly due to the amount of fright that consumed her. She glanced to the door on her left which led into the garage. Should she leave?

The sound of rustling answered Amber's question. She needed to find out who this was. She wasn't going to run. If she did, whoever was in her house could take whatever they pleased. Plus, her and Luna were all alone. The next house wasn't for a whiles away.
