Chapter Four

Amber was whistling softly as she packed her second suitcase. She didn't want to leave anything behind and already knew she would be needing another suitcase. She was so excited that she couldn't stand herself. It had been a few hours since her mother had told her she could go, and she was seriously counting down the minutes. Living with Luna was going to be spectacular.

There was a small knock against Amber's door which stood open. Amber hushed her whistling as she turned to see her father walking into her bedroom. She didn't have to wait long to find out what it was he had came for.

"Your mother told me how she gave you permission to move in with Luna," he said to get to the point.

Amber sighed quietly. She knew where this was going. He still didn't approve. "Yeah, she did..."

"Well for your information, I am totally against the decision and she isn't happy about it either."

Amber blinked at him. Why was he being so rude about this?! "Okay," Amber said simply, doing her best to contain her rage. She was allowed to go now. That was all that mattered. And her mother obviously wasn't too upset if she had made the decision on her own.

"When are you leaving?" Her dad asked after a hesitation.

"Soon."

Without a word, her father stepped out of the room. Amber stared at his back, hating the feeling of guilt she was receiving. Was it really that big of a deal to both her parents? She knew they were only being difficult because they cared. But they were making her feel as if she they didn't have any interest in her happiness. Amber was taking in mixed emotions. She felt bad because she knew they were doing all this for her own safety and protection, but she wished they weren't so harsh about the whole deal.

The sound of Amber's phone buzzing hysterically pulled her away from her thoughts.

She yanked it out of her pocket and saw it was Lucy. The two of them hadn't yet hung out until school had ended, but they did talk over the phone.

Amber accepted the call and held the device to her ear. "Hey Lucy!"

"Amber! What's up?"

"Packing," Amber told her as she shoved a shirt into the suitcase.

"Where are you going?" Lucy asked.

Amber then realized she hadn't told Lucy she was moving in with Luna. She hoped she wasn't going to be critical.

"I'm, uh...moving in with my girlfriend."

"Really? Where does she live?"

Amber smiled against the phone. "About fifteen minutes away."

"Okay, good! I was afraid you were going far away."

Amber chuckled. "No, no."

There was a slight pause between the two of them until Lucy spoke up. "Do you wanna hang out soon?"

"Totally! When?"

"There's a carnival coming to town in four days and I thought that would be fun!" Lucy beamed from the other line.

Amber had only been to a carnival once and found she loved the rides they offered. "Yeah, okay!"

"Awesome. Well invite Eva if you'd like."
