ayame had told nitta everything that happened. from the second the entered, to the part where she encountered the ape-like spirit. she figured there was nothing to hide, since everything had ended smoothly.
after hearing the explaination, nitta had stopped interrogating ayame about it - though she kept asking if ayame was okay, and the girl couldn't blame her. if she died, nitta was the one to shoulder all of the responsibilities.
ayame touched the wound dressing on her cheek as she looked out the window of the car. nitta had stopped by a convenience store to buy them drinks, and ayame decided to stay inside.
it was after a few minutes that ayame's eyes caught sight of students wearing beige blazers and, strangely enough, she thought the uniforms looked familiar. she watched the students like a hawk as they passed by, thankfully concealed by the dark tinted windows of the car.
beige blazers. red tie, black slacks and skirts.
beige...?
the car's door opened. nitta entered the car and sat down in the driver's seat, holding up a drink. "here you go, ohashi-chan."
"thank you." ayame accepted the drink, and gulped it down. "nitta-san. what's the nearest school around here...?"
"hm? here? um, let's see..." nitta rubbed her chin as she jogged through her memories. "if i'm not mistaken, it's saitama urami something? it's a junior high school."
"saitama urami..."
atame pinched her temples. if she's not mistaken...
a flash of two faces appeared in her mind. a boy and a girl, wearing the exact same uniforms as the students from earlier. the boy had a grumpy expression, while the girl was smiling politely.
oh!
ayame snapped her fingers. "saitama urami! they're there!"
"who - ?"
"nitta-san, go on ahead to the school first! i have something to check!" ayame threw off the seatbelt around her and grabbed her uniform as well as her drink. she jumped out of the car, slamming the door shut.
"HUH?!" nitta, too, followed suit and got out of the car. she yelled after the girl that was already running away. "ohashi-chan, wait! where are you going? how are you going to get back?!"
"i'll catch a bus! see you there!"
"but - !" nitta stared at the back of ayame's figure who had now disappeares into the streets. the woman facepalmed. "ah, that girl... first the curtain and now this."
-
ayame skidded to a stop as the pedestrian traffic light turned red. she placed a hand on her knee, breathing in and out to catch her breath. her other arm held her jacket underneath, as well as the drink nitta gave her earlier.
ayame wasn't particularly familiar with this part of town, but she's definitely been there before. if she could recall, she went out with riku after school to try out the nearby crepes they sold there.
...riku, huh.
'i wonder how she's doing.' the two haven't talked much ever since they graduated, with ayame going to jujutsu high and riku went to kyoto for a boarding school. now that she thought about it,
riku was the only one that bothered to interact with her, back in junior high. well, she was the class representative, but she made the effort to talk to ayame even outside of school.
"damn, was i such a loser back then...?" ayame mumbled as she crossed the street after the light turned green. "i never realized that..."
she kept walking, trying her best to navigate through the streets as quick as possible. she passed by the crepe store she had visited some time ago, though it was closed. it was unfortunate, though ayame didn't feel like having crepes so it was fine.
