Kuragi stood at the center of a massive green field, the clear day let her see for miles in any direction, however no matter where she looked there was nothing, just an endless expanse. The grass was fresh, soft, as if it had just grown there recently. There was no sounds, no bugs buzzing, no birds chirping, nothing. Then it started, quiet at first, but the ringing grew louder and louder. Unable to identify the direction it came from Kuragi ran. Endless field and vast nothingness was all Kuragi found no matter how far she ran. She looked back over her shoulder, nothing was there, the ringing sound was unbearably loud now. Her left foot got caught on something and she went tumbling to the floor. She caught sight of a castle in the distance as she slowly lost consciousness, and the ringing intensified even more.
Kuragi rolled to her side.... *CRASH*, before she could understand what was happening she was sprawled across the floor of her room. The room was one of two in the apartment she had been living in since she started high school a few months prior. This room contained a small table, kitchenette, and a bed. Her tumble to the floor had left her usually well organized room in shambles. The ringing sound, now mostly awake Kuragi recognized the ringing immediately, it was her alarm clock which she had somehow knocked off of her table when she fell. Kuragi grabbed the clock and looked at the time, shoot, she was late. She jumped up, and spun around, still very disoriented. Kuragi managed to get her clothes on and grab a quick breakfast of toast and jam. She opened the door and was instantly greeted with blaring sunlight, which immediately blinded her.
Meanwhile in an office conference room a singular man was giving a PowerPoint presentation to an empty room. The man, Burnes was his name, was big both in height, and weight, and his gray hair was combed back making him look like some sort of hitman. Burnes had been preparing for this meeting for years now, it wasn't so much the subject of the meeting he was concerned with however. He was concerned more with the undertone, and putting on a show. He needed his boss to go along with his plans for now, and maybe one day he himself would be the one running this company. He spoke to the empty room, professionally as if he were speaking to the head of a big corporation.
"So in essence I believe that this will be the perfect assignment for him. I've already explained everything to him, and as stated in subpoint five of article two I will take responsibility should anything go wrong, meaning I will step in should Haku need the help."
A voice spoke back to him from the empty conference room. The voice sounded like that of a six to seven year old kid. "I follow everything you've said so far, and it all makes sense, I just have one problem with it."
"Oh?" Burnes responded, feigning ignorance.
"The world you chose for him, why did you choose that one. It is on the blacklist after all."
"I have firsthand insider information that leads to me believing this world needs to be dealt with immediately." Reciting the words as if reading from a cue card Burnes spoke into the emptiness before him.
"I'll choose to trust your judgment on this one, what of Haku, I should like to see the kid for myself."
"Of course, let me call him up." Burnes grabbed a remote out of his pocket and hit a few buttons. The screen behind him flickered a bit before switching over to a video call. On the other end a kid who looked like he couldn't be more then eighteen years old sat with his back facing the camera. The room, not much bigger than a closet, was filled with different figures, books, posters, and all kinds of other merchandise from popular anime and games. The boy was sitting in a chair in the corner of the room staring at a book with a couple characters wearing orange karate uniforms on the cover, he seems to be deep in thought.
Burnes cleared his throat. "Haku."
The boy glanced up and looked back over his shoulder towards the camera, his blue eyes lacked focus as if he were deep in thought, and his messy black hair looked like it hadn't been washed in days.
"What's up old man?"
Burnes had to take a deep breath before addressing the kid. "Haku, remember I told you to address as sir from now on."
"Oh right, what's up old sir?"
"Can you drop the.... Not important." Burnes recollected himself as he reminded himself that it wasn't just him and Haku currently. "What is important however is progress, how are you doing on that project I gave you."
"I've been doing research, and I think I'm getting somewhere."
"Oh? What kind of research?"
"Well, I took a look at the documents you gave me, and realized my power level is much too low to complete the assignment so I've been doing research on how to get stronger. I've got an idea of what I want to do, a way to instantly boost my stats."
Burnes visibly sighed, but of course this was all according to plan, there was no way that kid could do it, making him the perfect candidate for Burnes's plan. Their spectator however needed to believe that Burnes was putting his all into this. "Very well Haku. Keep me updated." With a click on his remote the screen went dark leaving Burnes alone in the empty room.
Like before the emptiness spoke back to him. "He seems promising." The voice giggled in its childlike tone, making Burnes very uncomfortable. "And fun. I'll let you continue this operation as is. I expect reports on it weekly."
"Understood sir." Exactly as Burnes had hoped, flawless acting and execution, paired with Haku's innocence. This was going to be a cake walk.
"Later old man." The childlike voice spoke while slowly getting softer. Burnes took a seat, when he got back he'd get to begin phase two of the plan. The bell rang for school to end, staring off into space, Kuragi was one of the last students to leave the classroom. With no clubs, and no sports, Kuragi didn't really have much to do after school. There was one spot she wanted to visit though on her way home, a small bookstore in a less populated area of the town. Her main reason for going there wasn't books however, the bookstore was a nice quiet place away from the other students, and the owner there always minded their own business, letting Kuragi do whatever. She had to walk by several alleyways on the way, usually containing students trying unsavory things, and Kuragi did her best not to look down any of them. One caught her eye however, in the last alley before the bookstore, she caught sight of a large truck, one that barely fit in the alley. In front of it closer to Kuragi was a boy, thin with black hair and blue eyes. The boy was preoccupied with messing with some kind of controller, to preoccupied to see the truck flash to life behind him, and start to roll in his direction. The truck began picking up speed, as Kuragi sprung into action. She rushed into the alley and grabbed the boys arm.
"Wait!" The boy was clearly confused. The sound of the truck behind them grew really close.
Kuragi dragged him towards the entrance of the alley, and shoved him to one side of it, as she tried to follow.Too late....... She felt the impact and pain of the truck hitting her back, but only briefly. Everything faded to black as the life left Kuragi.
