As Bakugou rounded up the warriors who would accompany him to the shared land so that their allies could discuss his plan further, the half-dragon slipped away to find you.
Imagine his surprise and amusement when he found you and Eri curled up in your den, with a slumbering Katsuma, a bunny hybrid, not far from the two of you. Mahoro, his older sister, was shadowing Sero, the deputy, for the day but they would probably be back soon.
Mahoro had begged him to take her on a hunt but she was still too little. So instead, she managed to convince him to let her tag along with an uneventful border patrol. Not as exciting, but the bunny was still bursting with excitement.
She was always playing pranks on the elders in the clan and compared to her demure little brother, she was quite the cunning trickster.
Kirishima settled down next to you and patted your head, his smile growing fond when you shifted unconsciously to rest in his side.
He wasn't going to let anything happen to you. Not now, not ever. Even if you didn't know it, you were stuck with him from here on out.
"Kiri?" You mumbled sleepily, opening your eyes to see him beside you. "What's going on?"
"Nothing, it's okay." He reassured with a watery smile as you remained unaware of how his heart twinged when you called his name. "I've got you."
Kirishima had to hold back a sob as you snuggled into his side. How did he ever leave you?
"Okay..." You mumbled, squeezing Eri a bit tighter. "I trust you, Kiri..."
You had no idea but that night, he pledged his life to you, vowing to keep you safe until he died.
The past would not be allowed to repeat itself again.
That night, Bakugou gathered in the Common Ground where the other leaders of the Eastern Alliance were coming together to answer his call. The only one thing Kaminari was good for was informing them all quickly so that they could get here on time.
Everyone was sitting in a circle, with a minimal entourage to prevent anyone from tailing them. They didn't want word of this meeting getting out so it was being kept secret.
One person from each clan hung back to watch the border. Just in case.
The Common Ground was exactly as it sounded. It was a stretch of land that was protected by all four of the clans that made up the Eastern Alliance. Bordered with thick, centuries-old trees, the defense was impenetrable and only a handful knew of how to get in.
The terrain was incredibly diverse. Rolling plains in the areas that filled the north, mountains bordering the section in the south, hills and valleys in the east and rivers in the west.
Blanketed under the cloak of the night, Bakugou strode over to the empty spot between Deku and Todoroki, plopping down with a huff.
He had dodged Kirishima's numerous pleas for him to come with as he caught him just as he was leaving and eventually repeated how he was entrusting him to look after the clan while he was gone.
The dragon had flitted around in distress, his wings actually coming out as he lost control due to his fear. Never before had he not accompanied him to one of those meetings, he was always his chosen protector for things like this.
Bakugou could clearly see how Kirishima hated not being able to be there this time but it was for his own safety. He wasn't ready to risk his life or countless others just so that his second-in-command could get the information a little faster, he would fill him in when he got back.
