You grew even more worried when he didn't tack on one of his usual nicknames for you and you frowned, inwardly panicking if you had done something wrong.
Bakugou was too attentive for his own good as he tipped your chin up with a tenderness that wasn't displayed earlier.
He smirked slightly at your flustered state and abruptly released you.
"Go to sleep." He directed, his tone leaving no room for argument but he paused and lifted an eyebrow when you didn't get up or start towards the exit.
"Y/N."
You shivered when you heard him say your name so quietly in a voice that held the bated question of what was making you hesitate. Somehow, that gave you enough courage to speak.
Swallowing hard, you steeled yourself. "I know you did all that work in preparing my den, and I love it!! I really do!! I just..."
Your shoulders slumped in defeat and you mumbled the last bit. Even as Bakguou leaned forward and strained his ears to hear, he still didn't catch it.
"Hah?"
You blushed at having to say the embarrassing part again but figured it couldn't get any worse than this. The worst that could happen was he could completely reject you and you could just accept it, crawl back in your cave and die of embarrassment.
Piece of mouse.
"Can I stay with you tonight?" You rushed out, cheeks pinking self-consciously. "I just— I don't want to be alone."
While Bakugou could certainly understand that notion, you were going to be the death of him.
"Fine." He muttered.
Your eyes shone with gratitude as he didn't turn you down like you thought that he would. "Thank you."
Bakugou scoffed. "Whatever."
You weren't completely in the dark as to what he was going to do during the next month. Kirishima had filled you in on everything that he knew once you woke up from your little nap. But for him to go far for someone like you, you were terrified.
You knew that you weren't the entire reason why he was acting now, he was doing it to save those hybrids down there and give them another chance at life. But you had been the catalyst and though deep down you knew that you should be happy, for them and for you that you were going to be brought out into the light, you couldn't help but be petrified.
What if they weren't enough to overthrow the League? What if they were stronger than them?
What if they came back and found you after capturing Bakugou and the rest of the Eastern Alliance? What then? Where would you go? Could you hide?
Did you even stand a chance on your own?
These were the reasons why you were so distressed while Bakugou was gone and waited in his tent for him to come back. Because you knew that you weren't strong, you didn't have a chance of surviving on your own should anything happen to him or Kirishima. You had no one else to turn to.
So that's why, just for tonight, you indulged in the peace that the king brought for one night and allowed yourself to drift away while basking in his presence.
If only you had known that it would only make things harder.
After much urging, Bakugou had gotten you to take the bed and while he went to another part of the tent to shed the braces for his shoulders, he chanced a look back.
Big mistake.
You had curled up on the mattress, your head resting on his pillow that he was sure was absolutely covered in his scent. You had pulled up the covers to your neck and your nose was buried in the quilt that his clan had stitched together for his birthday three years ago. Everything that surrounded you was all marked by him.
