When dawn broke the next morning, Bakugou was already up, moving as quietly as possible through his tent to avoid waking you. He gathered up his sword and the extra quiver of arrows for Ashido for training today but he hesitated to take the cape currently bunched in your hands and hugged tight to your chest.

The recruits would probably laugh at him from seeing him without his signature cape but he didn't give a fuck.

You had fallen asleep in his bed, never stirring once during the night, and he had slept on the floor.

He could honestly care less that you had taken over his bed, you slept in it more than he did these days. You being there at night honestly did wonders in keeping him level-headed, he actually fell asleep and stayed unconscious through most of the night.

Damn, it was the best night's sleep he had gotten in a long while.

But now came the difficult part: coming up with a plan to make sure that you and Kirishima didn't somehow follow him into battle.

He was less worried about you now that the two of you had talked about it and more about the dragon who he was almost entirely sure wasn't going to obey orders and stay put like he was supposed to.

That he was going to throw himself into danger to protect his friends and inevitably die.

Abso-fucking-luetly never. Not on his watch.

Sighing to himself, he walked over to you as softly as he could. He hesitated before prying your fingers away from his cape, only for his eyes to shoot wide open when your grip released from the material and latched on his wrist instead.

Your fingers were warm and already less bony than they had been almost a month ago thanks to Hagakure's medicine and Ashido's help in keeping you on a good, healthy diet.

He debated about waking you up just to say goodbye but he didn't think he had the resolve right now to tear himself away should you start crying again after what happened last night.

Today was a joint training session to ensure that everyone knew their parts and it was scheduled to commence at the Common Ground in one hour.

He knew how badly you would want to go if he told you so he wasn't going to. If he made a fool of himself in front of you and all those fucking extras, he would die of embarrassment.

That wouldn't be a good look for the fearsome Barbarian King.

Peeling your fingers off one by one, he swallowed when your brow scrunched up and a small frown appeared on your features. He went through with it, barely catching himself in time before he pressed a kiss to the back of your hand.

Clutching his head, he grimaced.

What the fuck is wrong with me?

Bakugou's jaw clenched at how tranquil and peaceful you looked while you were sleeping. He wanted nothing more than to stay here, be there to greet you when you arose from your slumber but he couldn't.

He had to fulfill his duty.

This was all going too fast. It was just a month ago that you had come into his clan and now he was going to go to war. For you.

He tried to deny it but it kept him up late last night as he thought about what he was going to be chancing the closer and closer the deadline came.

Bakugou knew that Deku, Icyhot and even Raccoon-Eyes were eager to finally bring the League to justice but for the first time in his life, he found himself pausing and second guessing their tactics.
