Chapter 17: House of Maple (01)

"Mai-chan! What are you doing?"

That playful voice really annoys me. It's very loud and irritating. I didn't know if he swallowed a megaphone or what but his voice can really burst someone's eardrums. If my foster dad is as calm and elegant as a music box- soothing all the listeners around him, then he would be the tone deaf singer, destroying the peaceful and breathtaking sound.

I didn't look up to acknowledge him and continue answering the questions in my workbook. It's been a few years since I came to this barracks. I don't remember anything apart from my mother's passing and no one ever came to pick me up after the incident so the soldiers decided take me in.

Taniyama Izuki is the most qualified and capable of adopting me among the ones who wants me so I was given the name of Taniyama Mai and is currently living with him. We got the biggest and widest room for ourselves and I'm satisfied with that. Though I am aware that my foster dad used me to get the room he was eyeing for years now. Taniyama Izuki is a laid-back person and a bit clumsy but I don't hate him so I don't really care. As long as he doesn't hurt me.

And then this guy....

"Mai-chan! Mai-chan! Why are you ignoring me?! Mai-chan!!" I can hear his loud voice penetrating my ears as his finger annoyingly continued poking me!

I don't know if it's intentional but is it necessary to poke my cheeks while getting my attention?! His voice is already irritating, why does he have to get so touchy?! This guy is really getting on my nerves!

"Old uncle, can you stop it?!" I screamed at him with a glare and slapped his finger away from my face. But instead of backing away from me, he just smirked like he had won a lottery!

"What do you want?!

"Play with me, Mai-chan!"

"I don't want to!"

This is Amane Shiro. He's a lieutenant under my foster father's wings. Many uncles also said that he's rich but I don't know how rich. He always gives me present but all of them are fluffy and pink so I don't want them.

He's one of the people who wanted to adopt me but my dad is one step ahead of him so he didn't succeed in getting me. And compared to Uncle Shiro, I like my current dad more.

"Why?!" Uncle Shiro asked me coquettishly and held up his fists to his face while giving me puppy looks.

How old was he?! He looks older than my dad, why is he so childish?!

"Because I don't like playing with you!" I answered and harrumphed at him.

The first time we play together, we go to a place called 'arcades' and he forgot about me- fully immersed in his games! I didn't enjoy it! The latest is we went to a park but all he do is to pester me to make friends with some snot faced kids who knows nothing but to cry to get what they want! So it's not really fun to got to parks and anything that have kids in it!
