Mai quietly whined at the sight of her savings. She only has 5,000 yen left and her allowance won't fit for her until her acting guardian comes a few weeks later. She sighed and listen to her English teacher in front.
Guess ramen will be my food for later days. I also need to find a part-time job to cover up the expenses. I hope my future workplace is not haunted.
"Taniyama-san, you are spacing out again. Stand up and read the passage on page 37. Juliet's line." Akira-sensei pointed at her and flipped the page of the book.
She sighed and read the awfully cheesy line in English out loud. Mai didn't forget to act as she read it emotionally to avoid being called out again and read this Romeo and Juliet written by William Shakespeare. It is not that she hated it but she cringe every time their English teacher, Akira-sensei, use it as a practice passage for their class. This teacher is so obsessed by this play and she will kill if this play was not read properly or was insulted.
This is the reason why no body in their class wanted to recite for their English class. Mai's classmates look at her in admiration but they still didn't have the guts to praise or talk to her since she is believed to be a walking curse. They also believed that she is the reason why the old schoolhouse is haunted.
Mai can feel the strange stares she is receiving from a while ago but she had ignored it and continue reading the passage. Akira-sensei clapped as she finished her part. She gave her full points before leaving the class in a good mood.
On the other hand, Shibuya reported what had happened that afternoon. The principal was a bit shocked but quickly apologizes. He was a bit annoyed at Taniyama-san and planned to punish her but Shibuya Kazuya objects the idea.
"Do you want me to call for her?"
"No thanks. But I want to hire her for this case. My assistant is unable to work for now and I want her to repay me by working for me. I wish to get your permission on this, Mr. Principal."
"A-are you sure?" The principal flinched when he said that. Shibuya Kazuya noticed the strange hesitating gaze the older man gave but brush it off after a second thinking that he is a bit guilty about what happened.
"Yes."
"Okay. But don't blame me if she causes trouble." The principal agreed as Shibuya nodded at him, not minding what his last sentence.
He then began to report what he had discovered for that day. When the bell rang, he bid farewell to the principal and went to the back of the old school building where they parked the van. The students are already dismissed for the day and he tried to ignore the stares he is receiving from the girls he passed by.
Mai went to Class 2-F after most of the students already went home. She saw Keiko and Michiru talking about Shibuya when she arrived there. And they also dreamily recalled his smiles that made Mai look at them in a strange way.
Did they know that his smiles are fake?
"Hey, Mai. Do you think he will come?" Keiko asked her expectantly as Mai just shrugged her shoulders at her.
