Chapter Twenty

“Love, I have some news for you.” I said when Cameron was preparing coffee for the two of us in her house.

“Hmm, what is it?” Cameron asked without looking at me.

I received an email from the guy referred by Ace. He sent me all the information he got regarding Cameron’s mother. There are pictures, letters, correspondents. I did not read any of it because they’re not for me, but the pictures, they’re something else. I think most of it will definitely break my Cameron’s heart.

Her mother has a new family now. She’s with two daughters now, a son and a husband.

I’m not really excited to tell her the news.

Tumawag na ako sa bahay kanina para sabihin na mal-late ako ng uwi. I know Cameron will need someone to lean on and that better be me.

I cleared my throat before telling her.

“It’s about your mother.” I said. Nakita kong napatigil si Cameron sa ginagawa niya kaya’t mabilis ko siyang nilapitan.

“You found her?” Mahinang tanong niya.

“Yes. The informant sent me all the things he found about your mother.”

“Have you seen it?”

“Huh?”

“Have you seen it? The information?”

“Yes.”

“Will you tell me about it?” She said and she continued making coffee.

“Are you sure? I don’t know …” I stopped talking when her hand started to shake. I know she’s nervous and maybe a little scared so I decided to embrace her from behind. “We can look at the information together.”

“Okay, let’s do that.” She said and faced me. Handing the cup of coffee to me. She gave a little smile and walked to the living room ahead of me. I followed and sat beside her.

Inilabas ko ang laptop mula sa bag ko at binuksan iyon.

“Do you want to open it?” I asked and she shook her head.

“You do it.”

“You sure?”

“Yes. I’m sure.”

I nodded and opened the email. I didn’t know how to carefully open an electronic mail but I’d like to think I did that.

“Wait …” She said then stood from the sofa. “I don’t know if I’m ready to look?”

“We could delay it.”

“No, I’ll look at it now, I mean later.” She said, walking back and forth in front of me. “Sandali lang, I’ll drink my coffee first …” Mabilis niyang kinuha ang cup at uminom doon … “Ouch.” She said because apparently the coffee burnt her tongue.

“Love, calm down.” I stood and got the coffee away from her hand. Pinaupo ko na rin siya sa sofa at kumuha na rin ako ng tubig para sa kanya.

“I am calm, what made you think I’m not calm?” She said then stood again, walking back and forth.

Hindi ako umimik. Bumalik lamang ako sa living room at hinawakan and magkabilang balikat niya.

“It’s okay if you want to delay it, we can go for a run, watch a movie, do whatever you want before looking at the file.”
