Chapter Nine

"So, what do you think of our Wyatt?" Marjorie asked, and I swigged the wine in my glass because her eyes are on me. She is also a member of the book club. The truth is, they're not discussing about books. It's better to say that the women are gossiping. Nagbasa pa naman ako ng maiksing novel para paghandaan ang pakikipag meet ko sa kanila. Para kung sakali man na tanungin nila ako sa recent na librong nabasa ko ay may masabi ako.

The members are, Marjorie, Stella, Olivia, Vivian, Jasmine and then me. Only I and Stella are single, the rest of the ladies are happily married and using the book club as an excuse to gossip.

"Hey, what do you think of Wyatt? He's really handsome, right?" Marjorie repeated her question. The girls are eyeing me as if they are expecting me to agree with Marjorie, so I nodded. Lahat sila ay ngumiti na tila satisfied dahil sumangayon ako.

"Yes, he's handsome." I answered quietly.

"So, what do you think of him?" She nudged my arm with her elbow this time.

"Wyatt seems attracted to her, she seems attracted to him, too." Stella said then simply took a sip of wine from her glass.

"Oh, we know. Usapan na nga rin ng ibang parents sa school 'yan." Said Jasmine, who is a mother of two boys. Estudyante sa school ang panganay niya. Nanlaki ang mga mata ko sa sinabi niya at naibaba ang baso sa lamesa.

"What? Pinag uusapan kami ng parents sa school?" I asked, horrified.

"Well, kami lang mga mommies. I mean, Wyatt is easy on the eyes, and smells like the sea breeze and heartbreak and sweet love altogether. So natutuwa kami tuwing nakikita namin siya sa school kapag sinusundo at inihahatid niya si Umiko. Plus he's a good guy, and we noticed that he is giving you the look during those times.

"What kind of look?" Olivia asked – she just got married this year. Still very much in love and didn't want to leave her husband but didn't want to miss the town's gossips, too. "Is it the kind of look my husband gives me?" She asked again, giggling.

"Yes!" Jasmine agreed. Hindi ko alam kung anong klaseng tingin ang sinasabi nila. Hindi ko rin alam kung bakit ito ang pinag uusapan namin, pero nararamdaman ko ang pag iinit ng mukha ko. Idagdag pang parang nararamdaman ko rin na nasa likod ko si Wyatt katulad kanina sa liquor store. It feels like he's behind me and his hot breath are on my skin.

"Goosebumps!" Stella exclaimed then pointed my arms. "Iniisip mo ba si Wyatt? Tumataas ang mga balahibo mo!"

"I – well, no!" Pagkakaila ko sa kanila pero ramdam ko rin ang pag iinit ng mukha ko.

"You're blushing too." Puna naman ni Vivian.

I covered my face with my hands immediately.

Then my phone on top of the table vibrated. They all looked at the screen and then screamed.

"Why? What is it?" I asked curiously.

"Hey, how's your night?" Stella said, faking a deep voice. Kumunot ang noo ko sa kanya.

"Anong meron?" Tanong ko at kinuha ko ang cellphone ko. Nang makita ko ang screen ay napakurap ako, at ramdam ko ang mabilis na pagkalat ulit ng kulay sa mukha ko.

"Hey, how's your night?" A message from Wyatt.

I put my phone in my bag and didn't bother to reply. I'll think about it later.
