Chapter Twelve

Wyatt

Inihatid ko si Umiko sa school at nakita ko si Cameron na kausap si Mrs. Uy.

“Go inside, Miko. Hintayin mo si Teacher at huwag kang lalabas nang hindi siya kasama, okay?”

“’Kay.”

“Good girl. Have fun today, dad needs to go to work.”

“’Kay. Bye, daddy.”

I kissed her temple and watched her enter the classroom. Muli kong sinulyapan si Cameron at mukhang naramdaman niya ang pagtingin ko sa kanya dahil pumaling siya sa akin.

She smiled, so I smiled back before leaving the premises. She seems better today, which is good. I told her that I’ll help her find her mother, and I am going to keep my word.

Magtatanghali at nakatutok ako sa research nang mag ring ang cellphone ko. I saw Cameron’s name on the screen so I immediately answered the call.

“Hey, what’s up?”

“Wyatt? Umiko is burning up, we’re on our way to the hospital, wala rin kasi ang school nurse ngayon.”

My heart aches. My whole being starts to tremble.

My baby.

I took in a deep breath to calm myself down. Panicking wont help, I’ve done this before, I can do this. My daughter is strong, and I’m strong too.

“I’ll meet you at the hospital.” Sagot ko.

“Okay.”

I quickly gathered my keys and drove to the hospital.

I saw Cameron in the emergency room and my Umiko is lying in one of the hospital beds. I felt my heart tightening in my chest again. I gulped and walked towards them.

“Daddy!”

I smiled but my insides are twisting.

“Yes, love, dad’s here.” I said and she launched herself to me. “How are you feeling, my love?”

“I feel sleepy, daddy.” She said as we embraced each other. I patted her back and looked at Cameron who’s watching us.

“Thank you.” I mouthed.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t notice immediately that she’s sick.” She said, her lips trembled as she speaks.

“It’s okay.” Saad ko. I reached for her and pulled her so I can include her in our embrace. I heard my daughter sighed in content as I wrap them both with my arms.

“I’m so sorry, Wyatt.”

“It’s okay. It’s okay, Cameron. Don’t worry.”
