3rd person pov
"Virgil, you're worrying for nothing, we'll be fine!" Roman said, putting his hands on Virgil's shoulders, giving them a light squeeze. The anxious man sighed and nodded.
"If you say so... I'll be quick." He pecked his lips, waved everyone goodbye, and he was gone. Virgil wanted to get some stuff that he didn't want to lose from his flowershop. It was late at night yet everyone was on their guard. Some time has flown by and Roman was already yawning.
"I'm assuming it won't be wise to go sleep alone while Virgil is gone, right?" Logan and Patton nodded.
"Sorry Kiddo. It's safer if you stay with us." They waited for a while. Logan was about to text Virgil when suddenly, they heard glass breaking from the room next to them. The two vampires sprung to their feet and got in fighting stance, shielding Roman.
"Well you boys are as quick as ever aren't you?" A soft voice mused. Alicia! Before anyone could react, she stepped out from the shadows and punched Logan in the stomach, making him cough blood and bend over. Patton tried to get a hit in but was stopped by Alicia's cold hand, grabbing the boy's wrist and throwing him against the wall. She turned towards Roman and kicked him in the chest at full force. He crashed onto the table, shattering the glass. She grabbed Logan by the hair and threw him on his feet.
"Call my son and tell him that if he doesn't hurry home soon, I won't hesitate to cut his little boyfriend's head clean off." Logan started to dial the number, shaking and glaring at the woman in front of him.
"Don't even think about calling for help." She threatened, taking a dagger out of her bag and placing it on an unconscious Roman's neck.
"Don't underestimate my intelligence Alicia."Virgil was in his greenhouse, he wanted to get one last flower for Roman. He finally settled for an Aster, symbolyzing love and trust. He smiled to himself, remembering the first time they did this weird flower game 10 months ago. It all started when Roman was bragging about how he knew so much about flower language.
"Alright Princey, if you know so much why don't you find a flower that represents me?" Virgil dared, a smirk on his face. Roman came back not 2 minutes later with a Fennel.
"I hope this makes sense to you as much as it did to me," He chuckled, as he gave the florist the flower.
"It's hard to express why I chose that one but it just felt right you know?" He came back the next day. And the day after that. The day after that one too. Virgil sighed and smirked to himself at the memory. His smirk vanished when he was snapped back to reality by his ring tone. He picked up.
"Virgil, you have to come home now, Alicia is here, she's threatening to kill Roman!" It was as if someone just slapped him. Logan's words seemed far away, and so did his own. What he feared the most was happening right now. Virgil hung up, grabbed his stuff and bolted out the door, heading to Roman's apartment, not caring who he might trip on his way there.Alicia was starting to get impatient, pressing the dagger a little bit harder from time to time. Roman was still unconscious while Logan and Patton were panicking. Suddenly, the door flew open. Virgil rushed in, dropping his stuff in the doorway and ran up to where his mother and friends were.
"Now I see that has gotten your attention son. Let's negotiate shall we?" Virgil thought for a moment. He couldn't risk getting Roman in more danger. He nodded.
"Alright. What are you suggesting?" He asked. Alicia smiled wickedly.
"You have two options here V. Either I cut this boy's throat, let him bleed out and you'll never be bothered by me ever again... Or..." She chuckled
"Or you let him live a normal happy life away from you and all this danger and you will come back to the main house, continuing the life you left behind 50 years ago." Virgil looked at his lover. His arm looked broken and he was bleeding. His friends too, looked terrified. What would happen if he left? Roman would probably marry someone, have children with them, have a house in the mountains like he always talked about. He would be happy. That's what he wanted for Roman. He wanted him to feel happy and loved, because he loved him. He only said he loved him once. Now Virgil wanted to say it until he had to be stopped. He wanted to scream those words at the top of his lungs. But he couldn't. Not anymore.
"So? Have you decided? If you're unsure I don't mind picking for you!"
"No need... I'll come back home." Logan and Patton whirled around, looking shocked at Virgil. Tears formed in his eyes not breaking contact with Alicia's. The latter smiled warmly.
"You made the right choice. I'll see you at 10 tomorrow. Good night son." She released Roman and Virgil rushed towards him, holding his head before it could hit the ground. Alicia left, leaving only the 4 boys in the apartment.
"Virgil why would you do that?!" Logan asked as he fell to his knees next to Virgil.
"Roman doesn't deserve to die for my freedom. I couldn't watch him get killed." Patton looked at him for a moment, wiping the tears from his face. He looked for something in Roman's bag and wrapped it in Virgil's hand. He hesitantly opened his fist and felt his heart drop. Virgil was holding, a small white box with a beautiful engagement ring. Most people cry tears of joy when they're being proposed to. Tonight though, Virgil cried because he was in pain. He took a deep breath and looked at the man laid down on the bed. He sat down next to him, and hesitantly slipped on the ring. It had a red and purple rose on it, still, it was very subtle yet pretty. He rested his forehead on Roman's.
"Yes." He whispered.Virgil stayed for a while, not leaving Roman's side. He looked at his watch, it read 2 am. He sighed and got up. He came back later with a small note. He folded it neatly and placed it on his bedside table. Virgil brushed Roman's hair out of his face.
"I love you." He said before slowly backing away and leaving.
