Roman

It didn't hurt. Or atleast not anymore. What was I doing here? What is here anyway? I died yet I've never felt so alive. It was so quiet and calm... I was like this for some hours, a day, a week, month, years? I didn't know. Time flew by yet it froze every now and then. I let myself get carried by this understandable nonsense. I let myself get overpowered by this strange new feeling, overpowering me.

My eyes fluttered open with difficulty. It took a moment for me to get used to my surroundings I was in the room of the new house I bought for me and... Virgil ! I shot up, and immediately regretted it as I twisted in pain due to my still healing wound in my chest. After a moment of pondering, I slowly got to my feet, and stumbled out. As soon as I was out of the room, I could hear so many voices. It surprised me to see how loud and colorful everything was. Maybe the world was new or I was. Either way, I enjoyed every second of it. I slowly guided myself to where the voices were. My hand pushed open a door and suddenly, the voices stopped. Everyone looked in my direction, shocked. I saw Remus and Janus on a couch nearby, sleeping, Logan bandaging Patton's burnt skin and finally, there he was. Virgil. He stepped forward hesitantly, a concerned look on his face. I grinned, and with a strength I didn't know I had, I rushed towards him and almost tackled him in a hug. He let out a breathless laugh as he hugged back, burying his face in my neck.
"Glad to have you back Ro."

Virgil

By the end of the day, Roman was fully healed and back on his feet, bragging on how he is indestructible and survived being stabbed by a dagger. Let's just stay he added I helped a lot too after being given a glare. Everyone went back to their new houses, leaving us alone.
"Oh V, I had something planned for us. Guess I got a little sidetracked." I nodded and smiled back.
"Sure, what did you have planned?"

The sun finally set and we walked outside. We were looking at the mountains that we could see from our open backyard. There was a huge lake 10 minutes away from our home. We got lost a few times while trying to find it but we still had fun, laughing it off. Finally, we reached our destination. I removed my shoes, cuffed my pants and walked to knee level in the cold water. He grinned and joined me. I felt hands wrap around my waist, pulling me closer. Suddenly, I felt him squeeze.
"Oof-"
"Ah sorry, didn't mean to hurt you V!" He apologized. I smirked.
"It's okay, you didn't! You got really stronger though." He gave a sheepish smile in response. We pulled away and stood next to each other. Suddenly, Roman bent down. He stopped as his hand reached the water and he looked at me.
"You wouldn't." I said behind gritted teeth.
"I mean, I might."
"I freaking dare you Amore!" Then, he swung his arm and water hit my face, making me shut my eyes. He broke into laughter as I wiped the water away from my eyes.
"Alright, you asked for it!" I splashed water back at him. He tripped and fell back down in the water. I laughed and got closer to him.
"How's it hanging down there?"
"Why don't you see for yourself?" Before I could react, he grabbed my arm and pulled me down. We were drenched to the bone, fully clothed and in the dark too. I couldn't keep my glare for more than 2 seconds before breaking out laughing too. Suddenly, Roman's eyes went wide.
"Shit-" He patted his front pocket and gasped.
"Oh no no no no no! Ugh, hold on." He took a deep breath and dived down. I could barely see him pat down the rocky bottom of the lake, looking for something. I then felt something poke me at my shoulder. It was a familiar little box floating in the water next to me. I grabbed it and opened it up. It was the exact same box that contained the engagement ring I was wearing right now. My heart dropped. Roman resurfaced again and muttered to himself.
"Ro?" He turned around and gasped when he saw what I was holding.
"... Do you... Not want to marry me anymore?" I asked, bracing myself for the worst.
"No! I want to of course I do! It's just, I wanted to... Propose to you correctly this time. Most importantly, you deserve a perfect proposal. Not one where you learnt it from my friend right after we believed we wouldn't see each other anymore." I untensed and sighed in relief. I smiled softly at him and got up.
"Get up love. Let's do something about this."

We dried off and changed clothes. I finished first so I headed out in our backyard first. Roman joined me soon after. He smirked, bowed and gave me a kiss on my hand, now devoid of any rings.
"Sap." I said as he held my by the waist and I snaked my hands around his neck.
"You love it," He said before kissing me on the forehead. "Who knew that when I decided to flirt with a cute florist I would get to call him my fiancé 10 months later?"
"Ah I'm not your fiancé yet you hopeless romantic."
"Yet!" he brushed my hair away from my face, held my hands smiled.
"Virgil, will you marry me?"
"Yes!" I said, grinning and nodding. He immediately kissed me, pulling me closer.

Years later

"Remy, are you ready ?!"
"Almost Dad!"
"Roman?!"
"Not yet love! I gotta look perfect today! I don't want to embarrass our son in front of his potential new friends."
Virgil sighed and shook his head, smiling to himself in a fond way. His son was just like his husband in both the best and the worst of ways. Roman was also having trouble getting ready as he didn't want to get up earlier this morning. Today was their son's first day of elementary school. They were going to meet up with their friends. Finally, Roman and Remy ran in the living room. Virgil adjusted his husband's shirt and fixed his hair, then bent down and looked at his son.
"Remy, what did we say about your sunglasses?" He asked in a calm and soft tone. The child pouted and looked down at his feet.
"Only when I'm not at school..." Virgil smiled and gave Remy his schoolbag.
"You can wear them until we're in front of the school's gates." He said before kissing his son's forehead. Remy's face lit up and he gave his dad a hug, thanking him.

Roman and Virgil were under an umbrella, watching for any signs of their friends. Suddenly, Remy laughed out and ran away from his parents. The latters untensed as they saw him stopping before Talyn and Emile, Patton and Logan's children. Janus and Remus arrived too soon with their child Joan. Quinn was here too, for family pictures. Everyone posed with their children in their arms, then a full group picture. The gates opened and the kids all waved their parents goodbye. Logan cleared his throat and adjusted his glasses.
"Logan are you crying?!" Patton exclaimed, putting a reassuring hand on his husband's shoulder.
"No, I am not. That is absurd, why are you thinking that?" He mumbled sheepishly. Patton sighed and pulled him in by the waist. Roman though was not holding back his tears.
"Our babies grew up so fast!" Virgil was handing tissues back and forth for the crying dads. For one, he felt proud. Proud of his son, his husband, his friends, his siblings and most importantly, himself. He was finally happy, surrounded by the people he loved, and he couldn't ask for more. He never believed in happy endings up until recently. Yes, they all found and his happy ending.

The end.
