THE KING couldn't keep his eyes open. Koa and Elowen had finally wore him down and he was ready to give up.

The pain....it was unbearable.

He was never fully conscious, just a body with nerves and shaking breathing. He felt as if he was in a coma, only hearing and feeling the things around him, but he was trapped in his own mind.

He was locked in.

Locked in his own darkness. Full of nightmares. Full of betrayal. Full of backstabbing lies. But only a single string of the one thing that is keeping him going.

Love.

Love for his family, for his friends, his kingdom, for his daughter Aislin.

At first hearing the news, he didn't believe it. Nor did he want to. But as his denial passed, he knew he had to stay strong for her, not just as her student but as her real father. Her flesh and blood.

If he had known of Aislin when she was first discovered, he would have never left that baby. He would have been a part of her life, her father.

He knew that June's husband had filled that role, and the king felt nothing but gratitude towards the unknown man. She wasn't his child, but he treated her as such.

When he came to terms with everything, King Kole was originally angry. June had kept his child from him. Withheld such a big, life-changing experience for him. But as he cooled down,he knew it was for a reason.

Every decision is made for a reason.

June knew they couldn't be together and throwing a child in the mix would have complicated things. Aislin was the product of a love that should have never existed. She could have a been taken and sold away as a slave or worse, killed.

It was smart to keep her away, but he would be lying if he said it didn't hurt him.

Even though he was barely cognizant of the things happening around him, Kole heard what sounded like hushed whispers. They seemed miles and miles away, but in reality they were inches away.

A dark chuckle ripped through Koas chest and echoed off the walls, "Everything is going just as I thought it would." King Kole could feel the smug smile Koa had on his face.

"Oh yeah?" Elowen questioned, "What happened today, My love?"

"Aislin solved the clue, Just as fast as you thought she would." He chuckled darkly.

"She was always a bright, that one." Elowen tsked, "Are they coming?"

Koa shrugged, "Soon. Everything is falling into plan. And then very soon the throne will be mine and you my queen," Kia wrapped his arms around Elowen's waist and whispered into her ear, "-will be right next me. My little executioner."

"You make me blush." She giggled. She pulled from his hold and walked over to Kole. She dragged her pointy fingernail down his chest and around his torso as she slow walked around him, "What is happening to him?"

"Well part 2 of our plan begins when they arrive at the ruins of Laventhorpe. We will put this scum there and purposefully have him captured. Then part 3 with begin."

King Kole could barely make out their words as they were incoherent to his blood filled ears. But what he did understand was he was going home. Finally.

He wanted to tell with joy, but all that escaped his dried lungs was a raspy groan.

Elowen and Koa's head whipped towards the King at the sound of his pitiful groan.

"Awe. Is daddy dearest ready to go home now?" Koa teased, "Ready to see the old fam and go back to normal?"

The king used all his strength to raise his head and open his one good eye.

Kia shook his head while his body shook with laughter. He reached behind him and pulled out a rope like weapon.

A whip.

"Well who said you were going home in one peace?"
