Touch down in New York baby!
I'm so ready to get off this plane and meet Jo and everyone else.Detaching myself from this overly comfy plane seat I'm out and I can feel the warm air of America. I'm meeting my security detail and we're going some back way out of the airport so I can jump in a cab with Jo and go off to the hotel we're staying in. Although I've no idea where I'm actually meeting Jo. I guess we will find out.
The airport is big. I mean I already knew that. But because it's a quiet space, so I guess it just seems even bigger.
"Hero!" "Hero!"
That's the Australian accent I've been longing to hear for the entire flight. There's already a huge grin plastered on my face, when I turn round and see Jo. Her best smile is on her face too. Her blonde hair in a messy bun. Her make up looks like it's just been touched up. I can see a slight redness on her cheeks, like she had some sleep on her flight just like me. She in a plain grey T-shirt and joggers. A beige hoodie wrapped around her waist as she drags her probably overly large suitcase behind her. She holding up her garment bags with her other arm and over her shoulder. A backpack that is clearly new is over her shoulders. I've seen her like this plenty of times. To me, that's just Jo.
Then there's me standing like a complete lunatic. Doing absolutely nothing to help her with her bags that she is clearly struggling to carry. 'Classic Hero' is probably what she is thinking. I can tell by the way she is still smiling and trying to not laugh at me for not moving. Thankfully I got us a luggage trolley to carry all our shit.
Jo is finally up to me. Arranging all of her stuff on top of mine before we head out. She laughing and it's infectious. Before I know it I'm laughing with her. "Shit! Sorry Hero I won't be a minute." Also classic Jo! Still arranging our stuff.
I'm taken a bit by surprise when she suddenly pulls me in for a tight hug. Standing on her tiptoes as I bend down slightly to hug her. How the fuck did we get through filming with our height difference?
"Hey Jo" I'm smiling into her hair which smells of coconut like always. She clearly hasn't changed her shampoo in the last year. I mean why would she? Her hair is as lovely as ever.Stepping back, we both proceed to actually get out of the airport. Making small conversation. "How have you been?" We both ask at the same time. Jo does her normally giggly thing, which as always I find cute. How could it not be? I discover that she is well as expected. It's not like we don't talk. We do. But some conversations are nice to have in person. She tells me about some of the projects she is working on, like her new film and brings up another discussion. "So have you, you know been seeing anyone?" We've had this conversation before too. I try to put on a fake surprise look, but I'm already starting to laugh. Jo is just looking at me like I'm the craziest person ever. "You know me Jo. I've never had a girlfriend. No I've not been seeing anyone. Talked to a couple of girls but nothing series as ever." I've no idea how many times I've said different versions of that statement. It's all true.
Being a relationship is a serious thing for me. It has to be the right girl if it ever happens. I like to think I'm a gentleman and all.
"How about you?" I turn the conversation to her and we near the exit of the airport. We have a security guy in front, pushing the trolley with our bags on it. Another guy behind in case of paparazzi. Jo just shakes her head and laughs. "As if. I don't have the time to date. We have a busy line of work." I laugh a long with her. It's very true, what she said. Perhaps that's why neither of us have found anyone yet.
