A loud knock on the door made William and I shoot up in bed. We looked at each other confused for a moment before looking towards the door. He let out a small sigh before walking up towards the door "Borden, now isn't really the best of time"

"Well you're needed at Wisborough, another attack on a patrol"

"For the love of God, I'm not going"

"Mate, you don't have a choice in the matter"

"I have a choice! I'm staying here with my wife!" William growled and looked back towards me for a moment then back at James.

"William, 4 out of 8 men died, 2 were injured"

"Fine, Alright! Give me a few minutes to get ready"

"I'll meet you at the stables" he then started to walk down the corridor.

William closed the door and walked over towards his desk "I'll be back by dawn" he muttered and put his shirt.

"Don't be angry at Borden, he's only doing his job" I sleepily spoke and nuzzled into my pillow "And please be safe, I can't loose you"

He picked up his waistcoat off the floor and fastened it around his waist "If I'm not back by dawn, I've been sent on patrol"

"Did you listen to what I just said?" I mumbled and sat up.

"I'm always safe and you won't loose me, now cover up before you catch something" William smiled before wrapping his overcoat around himself.

I let out a soft giggle and did as he asked "Does this meet your approval?" he came up to me and planted a soft kiss to my lips "I love you"

"I suppose I love you too" he mused and kissed my forehead gently "I'll see you tomorrow" William walked over to his desk and took his baldric and belts.

"I'll be waiting" I looked over towards him but he wasn't looking. To be honest that did hurt a little.

William put his boots on and attached his spurs before picking up his cravat and letting it drape it around his neck. He let out a small groan before walking over towards the door. then he opened it and left.

He just left.

Tavington's POV
It turns out I can't even have a night alone with my wife. Honestly this job will be the death of me. I adjusted the furs on my saddle and looked towards Borden "Stop plotting my death" James muttered and looked towards me.

"It's plotted"

"Thanks"

"I've barely spent any time with Mable over the past week, it's unfair on her"

"You ordered the patrol"

I let out a small sigh and patted Ares' neck "yes, thinking that this ghost wouldn't attack"

"You seem annoyed"

"Well consider that it's quarter past one in the morning" I sighed and closed my eyes for a moment "I just want to be in bed, asleep with my wife" When I arrived at the camp, I dismounted my horse and tied him to a fence.

"You've changed" James muttered and threw me a canteen of water, I caught it thankfully "Who knew marriage would change a man"

"I haven't changed"

"Oh trust me, you have"

"Do you want to be demoted?" I scoffed and took my riding helmet off "because that can be arranged"

"Calm down mate, you're supposed to be happy"

"about being forced out of bed?" I mumbled and walked towards the medical tents. James guided me to the ones the soldiers were in. I looked over the man on the stretcher and sighed "Captain Taylor, what happened?"
