Melissa's POV
I couldn't stop shaking. I tried to calm down when he pulled me into his arms, but I couldn't get rid of the fear coursing through me.
I felt his heart racing as I leaned against him, and knew that he was just as scared, despite trying to hide it.
I heard Dumbledore ask what was going on, and then felt Sev's body shift as he passed the letter to him in answer.
I heard Sev and Dumbledore start to talk in hushed voices, but ignored them. I just focused on Sev, inhaled his scent, and nuzzled myself closer into his chest.
I wanted to feel safe again. We were being hunted like wolves, and I hated not having any way to fight back.
I jumped when I heard a chair squeak beside us. When I realized it was just Dumbledore, I slowly leaned back with a relieved sigh.
I assumed Dumbledore was just leaving, but he instead walked up to the podium. I looked at him curiously, wondering what he was going to say to everyone.
"It has come to my attention that there is an intruder in our school. Who he is, we do not know. What we do know, is that he is a death eater, with intentions to kill, based on this letter we just received," he spoke, holding up the letter to show them.
After a few moments, he continued by saying, "For the time being, you will all remain in the Great Hall, under the protection of the staff. Classes will be canceled until we can find a way to teach you while also ensuring your safety."
Once he said that, the hall erupted into some cheers from the students, who only were paying attention to that part of the speech. He waited until there was silence, before continuing again.
"As we are unsure how long this may be, we will bring your belongings to you. Under no circumstances should you leave the Great Hall, unless accompanied by a professor. This death eater is dangerous and is an experienced killer. He could kill you without a second glance. Think about that, before you decide to break these rules," he finished, leaving everyone in silence.
After a few minutes, students started to speak to one another again. I leaned back into Sev, feeling a small weight lifted from my chest. We were being protected, we weren't going to be killed.
Throughout the day, I mainly hung out with Ginny. I suppose we hung out with Draco and Hermione as well, but they were too focused on each other to pay attention to us. Sev was out collecting people's belongings with the other professors, whilst some guarded the doors to the Great Hall.
It worried me that Sev wasn't there with me, what if he had gotten attacked? However, he made it back in time for dinner, and made sure to give me a kiss before going up to the professors' table.
When it was time for bed, Dumbledore provided us with sleeping bags and pillows and blew the candles out. I tried to go to sleep, but soon found that I couldn't. I had grown so used to sleeping with Sev, that I just couldn't without him.
After another hour of trying and failing at sleeping, I stood up to find Sev. I found him at the entrance to the Great Hall, standing guard with Minerva. He looked at me confused once he caught sight of me, but let me walk over.
"What's wrong darling?" he asked quietly once I was near him.
"I can't sleep when you're not there, Sev. I need you to be beside me," I answered, grabbing his hands.
He looked over to Minerva, and she nodded, smiling, so he walked back to my sleeping bag with me. We both laid down together, with him tucking me back into the sleeping bag.
