Melissa's POV
As the weeks went by, his old house slowly transformed into our home. We had started by just cleaning everything. The entire house was covered with dust, and the windows were in desperate need of a good washing. It was amazing how much better a house could look when it was clean, all the rooms just seemed happier.
Throughout the weeks, we spent a few days on each room, making it into what we wanted. We usually spent a day shopping for new furniture, and then another day arranging it and setting up the room how we wanted. Then we went and decorated with different pictures or paintings that we both liked, along with some mementos, making this place seem more and more like home. Some of the rooms took longer than others, as we wanted more to be done, but it was all worth it when we finished.
The sitting room we kept pretty much the same, just adding some more furniture to bring more life into the room. After removing the old furniture, we bought three couches, along with some tables and a nice rug to tie it all together. We even added a few more bookshelves, as I could clearly see how much Sev loved to read.
In terms of color, the room still had dark wood, but we brightened it up a bit by adding some more colors. Nothing too bright, just some light hints of blue and green that gave the room a more homely feel.
The kitchen was nearly completely redone. As Sev and I began to cook more, we discovered how little space there really was to put anything.
So, after tearing everything out, we put a new, long counter in, along with buying several cabinets that we installed to store food. We also got a brand-new oven and sink, as they both were really out of date and needed an upgrade. The only thing we left was the dining table, as that was still in great condition and worked well with the room.
The yard, upon first seeing it, just looked dead. And as we didn't want to wait to regrow the grass, we used magic to fix it. Luckily, no muggles saw.
We also planted several different magical plants that Sev used a lot as potion ingredients. It was expensive to keep buying them, so I agreed that it would be better to grow them on our own. We just had to be careful and charm them every week so that they looked like regular flowers to muggles.
The downstairs bathroom didn't need too much work done to it. The only thing it really needed was a new sink, as the old one was getting rusty and creaked whenever you turned the handles. We also later discovered that dust was always raining down from the staircase above the bathroom when we walked on it, so we installed a wall directly under the steps to prevent that.
When we moved to the upstairs rooms, we started with our room. The room already had nice furniture, so we just moved things around a bit along with buying some extra dressers. As a finishing touch, we added some decorative curtains.
The upstairs bathroom was completely redone. Neither of us really liked the layout of it, so along with buying a newer sink, bathtub, and showerhead, we rearranged it. With all of the pipes, it probably would've taken us a long time, but it only took us a day with magic.
The upstairs hallway didn't need much, we just added a long rug and some pictures on the wall. Then we moved onto the last room, our daughter's. This one was the one I was most excited about.
Sev and I both agreed that we didn't want to make the theme in any sort of house colors, as we wanted her to be happy with any house she got. We also avoided making it pink and "girly", because I hated that stereotype, and because we didn't want to be reminded of Umbitch every time we walked in there.
After a lot of thought, we eventually decided to go with a night sky theme. We painted the walls a light bluish-gray and got a white crib, white dresser, white rocking chair, and dark blue rug. We also got a white toy bin where she could put her toys and stuffed animals. For the windows, we put white decorative curtains, and stitched her name into them with a thin dark blue string in cursive, forming a pattern. The last piece of furniture that we bought was a small long bookshelf, which we put in front of the window, and then set a blue cushion on top of, to make a window seat. We finally added some small pillows on top that had various constellations on them, to bring the theme of the room out more.
