Chapter 3: Last Glance
Lincon Purell's POV: (Snowed in, no school, and nothing better to do than write :) (Jeff Brand as Dominic Deleon, pic above)
I rub my hands together and pull the covers closer to me. It's too cold to sleep. Groaning, I turn and look at the clock, 1:48AM. I miss my own bed.
I throw the covers off of me and stand up. I open the door and notice Taylor's door open. I sniff towards the stairs and catch her scent. I quietly head down the stairs until I get to the living room. There sitting on the couch is Taylor wrapped up in a blanket nearly in tears.
"Hey, what's wrong?" I ask, walking over to her and sitting next to her. She shakes her head and leans on my shoulder as I get under the blanket with her.
"Xander looked up his Dad's criminal record before I got to talk to him, now he won't listen." She cries. I suddenly feel guilty because I'm the one who let it out.
"He'll come around, Foxy. It's not like he can keep it up." I reply.
"Lincon, Dominic is wanted for aggravated robbery, aiding and abetting, arson, kidnapping, fraud, and murder which I don't even know if that one is true, but Xander saw it anyway! You know what he told me a few months ago? He want's to be a Federal Agent! You know how horrible that makes me feel?" She cries.
I can sense Xander listening from the stairs, but she can't. Probably because her nose is stuffed up from crying.
"He won't go near Dominic anymore." She say's.
After a long talk with Tay, I mind-link Dominic, causing him to wake up. A few minutes later he comes jogging down the stairs. When he see's what's going on, he comes running and pulls Tay from me. I get up and head towards Xander's room.
He's pretending to be asleep.
"Hey." I call. He sits up and looks at me and I can tell he's upset.
"You know," I say as I sit down in the office chair, turning it towards him, "Your father was forced into that. He didn't have a choice."
"He still did it." He claims.
"You're right. He did. But it was to protect the people around him and to keep your mother safe. He didn't kill anyone," I'm not sure if this is true but, I don't think he ever did it, "Someone framed him for that. I chased your dad for years, not once did he kill. I studied his behaviour, it was as humane as a criminal can get. He sure scared people, yes, but in the end he made sure no one was intentionally hurt. He loves you, rather you believe what I'm telling you or not."
-----Taylor's POV-----
**9:32AM**
Nick stayed up with me the rest of the night. I don't know what Link said to Xander, but it worked. He's still not too friendly, but he's coming around. He's currently eating in the kitchen.
I stand up and head towards our room with Nick fallowing me.
"Where are you going?" He ask's as I change into some other clothes.
"Store. I might as well help Brett out some." I reply. He nods his head and say's, "I'll come with you." I nod my head and he starts to change into a pair of jeans. This is a small country town and isn't too heavily populated, so we should be fine.
-----
We pull up to First National Bank and I think back on the day I met Nick. I lightly smile as I grab my card.
"I'll be back." I tell Nick.
"Be careful." He warns. I nod and shut the door. On my way in I see Nick's old mugshot posted by the door. I rip it off and throw it in the trash bin. I pull the door open and make my way inside, pulling my jacket closer to me when the warmth hits.
"How can I help you?" The lady at the front desk ask's.
"I need to withdraw 200 please." I reply, handing over my card. She nods, "It may take a bit, I've been having trouble with the machine lately." she finishes, and leaves to the back. I had to come inside because the drive through is closed.
I look around and notice about fifteen people, some at desks speaking to clerks and some just waiting.
I happen to glance up at the TV and I see a mugshot. Soren's mugshot. Apparently he's been causing trouble lately. He looks different. His black hair is dyed blonde and his charmed look is gone. In this shot, he looks plain nutty.
"I can't wait until they catch him." The second clerks say's.
"Trust me," I reply, "I can't either."
I watch as Channel 7 shows a video of his last armed robbery. I can't say I'm not impressed at his tactics.
"Here you go, have a nice day." The clerk say's as she hands me the money. After counting it I thank her and continue on. I wrestle with my wallet as I walk, causing me to bump onto someone. After a quick 'sorry' I continue on.
"Hey!" Calls the guy I bumped into. "Yeah?" I ask as I turn around. After getting my card in the slot I look up and our eyes meet. That's when I regret turning around.
He stares for a bit and I quickly spin around and run through the doors. I yank the door of the truck open and climb inside, locking the doors behind me. I yelp as a bullet ricochets off of the side of the truck on Nick's side. Nick yells for me to get down and I do so.
He quickly pulls out and nearly slides on the ice trying to get away fast enough. I noticed all of the bullets are aimed at Dominic. Once we're a good distance I look in the rear view mirror and get once last glance at Soren.
