Chapter 11: Translation: Get Me Out Of Here
Taylor's POV: (I'm sorry it took so long to update, school has had a hold on me this week. I made this one longer than normal for ya'll as repayment :) Hope ya like it) -Bri*
"Hey!" Alora say's as she steps through the door. I smile back and she bear hugs me. Sawyer comes down the stairs to investigate.
"Who's this?" She ask's as she lets go, examining Sawyer.
"So- James's brother." I reply. I really need to get used to that. Sawyer glances my way, confused about the whole 'James' thing.
"I have a brother!" She yells and introduces herself. I nearly scoff at just how wrong she is. When their done, she walks around the house to get a good look at the large place.
"I love your house, it's beautiful. You have a pool? I wish it were Summer!" She groans. I laugh and pull her up the stairs. I look back and see Soren giving me a warning look. She fallows me into my room and looks around again.
I sit on the unused bed and let out a sigh.
"Are you alright?" She ask's.
I smile and nod. She frowns and try's to interrogate me more, but a loud noise comes from the hall. The sound of nails scratching against the floor makes me stand. Suddenly a large black Great Dane comes running into the room.
Sawyer comes running in and say's, "Sorry, he got away from me."
I laugh when I see the large dog on top of Alora, licking her to death as she laugh's.
"Down, Diesel!" He yells, grabbing the dog by his plain white collar and pulling him away.
"He's been locked in the kennel in the truck for a while, so he wanted out pretty badly." He laughes.
"Yeah, I know how that feels." I reply without thinking. He gives me a questioning look but leaves it. He pulls the dog out of the room, wrestling with the four foot tall dog the entire way.
"Alrighty then." She laugh's.
"Are you ok?" She ask's, turning serious again.
"Yeah," I hesitate, "I've just reached a dead end again."
She thinks for a moment, trying to understand. I'm referring to when I first found her being chased by Wolves and we reached a dead end road, we were in big trouble. I'm currently in big trouble.
I remember just how scared she was when she saw the sign: No Outlet. Meaning dead end.
She stares at me, suspicion in her eyes.
"In your marriage?" She ask's.
"You could call it that." I reply, mentally screaming in her eyes to understand.
Soren suddenly steps in and say's, "Excuse me Alora, but I need to speak to Taylor."
He roughly grabs my arm and drags me out of my room and into his. He shoves me against the wall and puts his hand around my throat, but not too tight.
"I better never hear something like that again, understood?" He growls, a sinister look in his eyes. The look that say's: I'll kill you if I have to. I nod my head and he shoves me out, slamming the door behind him.
I flinch at the loud noise and see Sawyer is standing in his doorway, looking at me. My jaw tightens on instinct and I shakily walk back to my room. I open the door and silently shut it and Alora jumps up.
"What was that abou- Oh my gosh, did he do that?!" She yells as she pushes my head back to examine my neck where there are probably red marks. I push her hands away and shake my head no, but I know she can read me better than that.
She gets an angry look on her face as she heads for the door. I grab her arm and tell her, "He didn't do it, I'll explain later. Let's find something to do." I smile.
"Dinner is ready!" Soren yells from downstairs. I quickly make my way out the room, Alora on my heels. When we walk in, no one misses the look Alora send Soren's way.
Sawyer looks a bit upset himself.
"We're gonna eat upstairs." I claim as I fill my plate with lemon peppered chicken, mashed potatos, and some fruit salad.
"Why don't you eat down here, Love?" Soren ask's.
"Actually, Love, I'd prefer my bedroom." I growl. I have the opportunity to p*ss him off, so I'm going to use it. Sure, I'll pay for it later, but not while people are here.
He chuckles to blow me off, "It sounds like you're trying to get away from me. Let's stay here so I can learn more about your sister?"
"Maybe I am, and no. You already know her name. That's enough." I growl and take off for the stairs.
"Alright. Later, then." He say's. Translation: You'll pay for that later.
-----
I sit up in bed and stare at the wall. Alora is sleeping peacefully beside me, but I can't say the same for myself. I want Nick beside me. I'm grateful I have someone here, but no one can replace Nick.
I stand and head downstairs. Laying at the bottom of the steps is Diesel, Sawyer's dog. I pat his head and step over him. I round the corner and nearly jump out of my skin when I see Sawyer sitting on the couch.
"Couldn't sleep either?" I ask, walking over to sit on the opposite side of the couch. His atmosphere sometimes reminds me of Nick, but it's still not him.
"Nope." He smiles, tossing a separate blanket at me.
"I haven't slept in a while." I claim while wrapping he blanket around me.
"I haven't either." He sighs, his eyes in a distant place.
"What happened?" I ask.
He lets out an exhausted sigh as say's, "I used to be a cop, and uh... My partner was killed on scene not but a few weeks ago. I tried to stop it, but I couldn't get there on time." I can tell he's leaving out major details, but I understand why.
"I was a cop too." I reply. He then looks at me and say's, "How long?"
"Three years until I met Dominic." My heart tugs when I say that.
"Sounds like you still love him." He claims, even though he doesn't know who Nick is.
"I do. He passed away almost a year ago." My voice alters at the end.
"Seem's like you would need more time than that to recover." He say's.
"I do. But, love is forced on us sometimes." I reply in a dull tone. He's forcing me...
He smiles, but then it fades. He glances at me, then around the room.
"That's why you're here?" He ask's. His tone has changed.
"I'm here for the sake of others, as well at my love for him." I reply. I'm here for Dominic and my family. Not for Soren.
"Why do you call him James?" He ask's.
"He likes it better than Soren." I reply. Alora doen't know...
He shifts in his seat and stares at his hands.
"So love has a hold on you, huh?" He ask's.
"Love has a tight bind on my heart. Yes." I reply. Soren is holding tight and won't let go...
He's a cop, he got it. He understood. But I know Soren did, too. He's not a fool.
He sighs and say's, "Things will get better. It just takes a little time."
I look at him and back at the wall, "I sure hope so." Get me out of here...
He then stands and heads upstairs with a troubled look on his face.
He understood... I nearly cry as I put my hand over my mouth. He understood me.
