Chapter 14: Boundaries
Dominic's POV:
I glare at the dash board of Grant's truck and roughly grip the door handle. Lincon stayed at the house to watch over an angry Xander. He was mad because I wouldn't take him to the Café with us to meet Sawyer.
After hours of finding nothing on a 'Sawyer Brooks' I finally got a call from him. I don't care how he found me, well, actually I should, all I know is that he found me so I can find Taylor.
A few days ago, I could literally feel something snap. Something had been very wrong. The connection I felt between Taylor and I had been there, it rooted us. Connected us like a telephone line, but something had severed that cable. I felt the break, and sharp, jagged ends ripped and tore unbearably. And then, there was nothing left. My chest felt hallow, like something was missing. Something, or someone, took the connection that I now have to fight for.
As soon as we reach the Café, I spot a man sitting inside that matches Sawyer's description. The only thing I don't like is the bruises and cuts on his face. I jump out and Grant stays behind.
I walk in and he looks up at me. I can't help the glare on my face as I sit down.
"Where is she and what happened?" I demand.
He shakes his head and says, "Soren, he... got angry and his Wolf came out. Taylor forced me to leave so she could talk to him, but it took a hard turn. I heard her yelling and I found them upstairs but he has silver bars on her door. I had never been on that floor. I tried for about twenty minutes to get in, when the noise suddenly stopped.
"I don't really know what he did, but when she walked out with him behind her, she was perfectly fine. The way he was yelling, how she was screaming, I don't find it possible that she wasn't bruised. I tried to talk to her, but..."
"But what?" I snap inpatiently.
"She doesn't remember me. She thinks that Soren is... her mate. I tried to talk to her, but Soren- well, more like Soren's Wolf, beat the life out of me and forced me to leave," He growls and glares at the table, "I can usually over power Soren, but I hadn't known how strong his Wolf was until then."
By the pure fury on his face and the way he is tapping his fingers on the table tells me that he isn't lying.
"You're going to come to my place and you're going to help me find her." I growl.
"You don't have to persuade me." He say's, rising up from his seat.
---
"Does Soren ever leave the house on a regular basis? Maybe for work?" Lincon asks Sawyer.
Lincon's cop side comes out as he questions Sawyer. Ever since Taylor was taken, he hasn't been as happy as he usually is. He doesn't call me Nicky any more and he gave up trying to lighten the mood a long time ago. It's even taken a toll on him.
"Not really," Sawyer reply's, "He would leave for occasions and other stuff. But no, he randomly leaves when he pleases. I know he's got connections in the black market, well, he used to. My guess is that he's probably back in it. Maybe he never even left..." I can tell he loves what he thought his brother was. He's mourning on the inside, of course it's for what he thought he had.
We bug him for all of the information we can get. A few minutes later, Xander steps in for the first time since we left. I assume he got over being mad at me. When Sawyer see's him he stares with a shocked but concerned look.
