Chapter 12: Self-Control
(Picture of Diesel, the Great Dane, above)
Lincon's POV:
I watch from the doorway as Dominic comforts Xander. This is the third time this week that he has been screaming in his sleep. He has nightmares just about every night, and it only drains the two of them even more.
Dominic puts on a fake smile during the day, but I can see past it. Every time Taylor's name comes up, he drowns himself in his "work" even more. It's been a month and I still hear him through the wall sometimes. During the night, I can hear him cry. Of course he'd never own up to it, though.
Every once in a while he will feel her connection and he'll freak. He'll start doing everything he can to get to her, then about thirty seconds later, it's gone. The same happens to me, but because theirs is stronger, it happened three times for him and only once for me.
It's hard to look at him sometimes. Day by day you can see the life drain from him. I've tried to talk to him about it, but he just blows me off. I quit trying a few days ago because he got mad and told me off.
All we can do is wait. Wait for Soren to slip up.
-----Taylor's POV-----
I watch in amusement as Soren runs around trying to find his keys.
Alora left a few days ago and I never could get anything through to her, but I know she knows that something is wrong. Sawyer has been acting different, he's more observant of Soren and I. That gives me a little bit of hope. Soren, well, he's still Soren.
I smile when I look down at Diesel. The large silver Great Dane is staring back with golden innocent eyes. He's laying on Soren's keys.
"Are you coming or not?" Soren yells to Sawyer, who is currently still upstairs. Sawyer comes jogging down the stairs with his keys.
"Just take my truck!" He say's as he tosses him his keys. Their almost out the door, going God knows where, when Soren looks back at me. He debates something mentally. I know what he's thinking. It's time for that vaccine thing.
He decides to wait and say's, "I'll be back in a few hours." With that said, the door slams. I sigh and grab his keys from under Diesel and pat his head. I throw them on the counter and lean back on the couch, closing my eyes.
It's dead silent. The TV is on, but it's muted. I look at the window that is always covered by curtains. I've been banging on it profusely every time Soren leaves, hoping that one day it will break. Diesel had growled at Soren a few days ago when he roughly grabbed me. Ever since then, he doesn't leave my side. Not even for Sawyer.
My eyes snap open when I feel Dominic's connection trying to return. I jump up and Diesel fallows, alert and looking for danger.
A few hours won't be long enough for our mind-link to return, but he can still feel my emotions. Well, he'll be able to here in a few minutes.
I then feel Xander's, then Lincon's, then Grant's. Tears begin to fall down my face when I feel his hurt. I sit on the floor and hug my new best friend. Diesel just sits there and leans into me.
I cry into the dog's shoulder and he just lets me. I cling onto his short fur for dear life as I wail my heart out, trying to get a link to Dominic.
"Please," I mutter to myself, "Please, just one. Just one minute."
I try harder and harder to concentrate as minute by minute passes. Before I know it, it's been two hours and I still can't get to him. I slam my fist down on the coffee table in frustration. The glass breaks and shatters into small crystals on the floor.
Diesel backs away and sits a few feet from me. All I see is red when I stand up, grabbing the top of the flat screen TV and throwing it off of the stand. I tip over the stand, throw vases, use lamps like a baseball bat, and trash anything and everything I can.
Diesel simply sits there and watches with curiosity.
Just as I'm about to hit the TV with the lamp again, I hear 'Taylor, please.'
I freeze and look at Diesel, "Please tell me I'm hearing what I think I'm hearing and you're not a talking dog." He cocks his head at me and I hear it again. 'Taylor?'
I drop the lamp and yell, 'Dominic?!'
'Taylor? Taylor I can here you!' I let out a chocked sob and yell, 'Find Sawyer Brooks! He can help you find me! I don't know where I am!'
'Baby everything is going to be fine, I'll find you, I promise.' He cry's through the link. The door suddenly opens and Soren looks dumbstruck, then p*ssed. He glares at me and then realizes what I'm doing.
'He's coming, I have to go, I love you so much Dominic.'
'No! Taylor! I love you too, so much.'
Soren then grabs me and try's pulling me.
"No! Let me go you b***ard! This is your fault! You did this! You power hungry worthless piece of-" I call him every name in the book as he drags me upstairs with Sawyer shouting at us from behind me.
He throws me in his room and slams the door shut, locking Sawyer out. He continues to bang on the door, I can tell he's trying to break it down by the loud and hard individual hits.
"You know what I realized?!" I snap at Soren as he digs through his closet, "You don't care about me! You never did! You care about hurting Dominic! You have a hatred for him and this was the best way to get him back, wasn't it?! Through me! So you could hurt him!"
He pulls out a syringe and wrestles me to the floor. I kick and scream, but he still drives the needle in my neck and then gets off of me. I rub the now burning area and realize what I've just done.
I recover from my temper tantrum as I realize just how much I just screwed up. The door breaks down and Sawyer begins to fight with his brother.
I suddenly mentally jump for joy when I realize that Nick knows Sawyer's name. If he finds Sawyer, he finds me. I can't help the giddy smile that comes to my face as relief washes over me for the first time in a long time.
Now, all I can do is pray. And attempt not to lose my self-control again. I guess any normal person in my situation would go a little crazy too.
