KARMA

"PRAGA..." Karma hopped on the counter as she watched Praga do the dishes, the song 'try to remember' playing softly in the background.

"...deep in December is nice to remember." She released a distracted, "Hmm?"

The young teen observed her, Praga wore a black cami, cropped wide-leg jeans, and black sandals. She wasn't wearing any wigs this time, so she was sporting her blonde buzz-cut hair. "If you had the opportunity to travel, either to the past or to the future, which one would you choose?"

"Deus, I haven't even had my morning coffee yet." Praga fake whine, her goddaughter chuckled. "But, to answer your question, the past... I guess?" The fourteen-year-old smiled innocently. "Why? Which one would you pick?" God.

"The past, definitely." Karma nodded, her eyes holding this far away, dreamy look. "Did you know that people who choose the past often regret something, so they wish to go back to redeem it?" Praga glanced at her as she took a bite of her chocolate muffin.

"Is that true?" Praga responded, intrigued.

Karma nodded enthusiastically, eyes wide with wonder as she munched and swallowed her muffin. "Yeah, it's crazy how easy it is to regret something." Praga chuckled.

"And what could a fourteen-year-old girl possibly regret?" Praga wondered, eyes flaring with humor as she glanced at her goddaughter.

"Not regret, no, it's more like... like a second chance." Karma began, nodding to herself. "I wish I could go back just to meet my mamãe, with breath in her chest and eyes full of life... alive. The same goes with my papai, I don't know him, not even in a photo. Heck, I don't even know if he's alive, I hope he is though, it means there's a chance we might meet." Dad. Mom

"I know what you mean, I've thought about that too," Praga confessed, as she placed the newly washed dish on the dish track. "And I also want to promise you something," She closed the faucet and grabbed a washcloth before drying her hands, eyes never leaving Karmas. "Even if it's the last thing I do, I promise to help you find your father. You deserve to have a family."

Karma took a sharp intake of breath, before releasing it softly and giving her a small smile. "I would love to meet papai, yes, but... you and I both know I already have a family." She shrugged. "You and Gavin are everything I need, and if I had to choose between meeting Bruce or keeping you guys as my family, I'll choose the latter."
