KARMINA

THE TRUTH HAS THE POWER TO DO A LOT OF THINGS, SUCH AS: SETTING YOU FREE, DAMMING YOU, OR NOTHING AT ALL. That was the case for Karmina Acosta, mostly known as Karma, she was a girl who never got to meet her mother. She was born without a family, her mother gave her the ultimate gift, her life. At first, it ate her consciousness, the possibility of being the reason her mother isn't alive and well; destroyed her, but even in the darkness, Karma was still being blessed. Praga Ferrer became the mother, friend, and sister Karma needed in order to move on with her life.

Praga made Karma realized that her mother's death wasn't on her. Martina Acosta loved Karma so very much and she wouldn't want her to blame herself for something that wasn't her fault, to begin with. Birth complications happen, that was what Praga told Karma and the girl chose to believe her. Besides, she wasn't alone on this, the young girl was left with someone who made sure she was well and safe.

Praga Ferrer wasn't stereotypical; she openly spoke about her journey in becoming a transgender to Karma. The eleven-year-old realized at that moment that Praga Ferrer was a woman who was grateful for everything, even the humiliations and the verbal mistreatment she would often receive. She told Karma that all the bad things she went through made her stronger, mentally and emotionally.

So from that moment and forth, Karma decided to look at life from Praga's perspective. For an eleven-year-old Karmina Acosta was too confident and optimistic, she never worried about a single thing, not even when she started to get a belly or pimples. Praga had made sure to teach her how to love herself, even more, when she felt ugly or stupid. Karma would often remind herself that a bad chapter doesn't mean the ending of the book, it was just part of her journey.

Karma stares intently at the TV, legs crossed as she leans back on the couch with a half-empty bowl of popcorn on her lap while Tokyo Drift played on her old LG SmartTv. The eleven-year-old had decided on her own accord to drop out of school, she already knew how to read, write, learned some English, and the basics of mathematics. She was never the type to plan and daydream about what her future would be like, she was more of a present-type of girl.
