ROSE HILLS
KARMA
It was cold.
THE WIND HOWLED IN HER EARS, IT GREW LOUDER AND LOUDER AS SHE GAINED CONSCIOUSNESS.
Karmina inhaled sharply, her nostrils burned from the extremely cold temperature, her eyes snapped open, and gasped. Those almond-shaped eyes grew wide once she realized she was flying, she became aware of the metal fingers under her armpits which kept her body upright. She squinted and glanced around, gathering her bearings.
She blinked once, it was dark.
Twice, there was snow.
Thrice, her eyes adjusted to the darkness.
She noticed a thick coat of snow laying on both sides of the road, tiny snowflakes made contact with her skin and melted, casting a wave of shivers. Pine trees, there were a lot of those. A sea of green in a land of white, the perfect Christmas scenery. Karma inhaled, her eyes welled up with tears and they rolled down her rosy cheeks. There it was again. That tightening sensation in your torso area is physically painful and suffocating. It's in that moment where your mind and heart are at synch when there's only one emotion that rules above the rest.
Where the mind brings the memories and the heart the emotions to the table, and seating on that table is Karmina Acosta. The girl that had everything and nothing at the same time, the teenager that lost nothing and gained everything. But only this time, she lost... she lost.
That sensation that was twisting her insides was heartache, and the reason behind the synchronicity of her mind and heart is grief.
I want in on whatever it is that you're planning to do, she had once told Gavin, and until now does she realize that she had been a pushover. She took part in a war where she was never needed and because of her ignorance -her naivety, Praga was dead.
