MARTINA
THE SUNDAY MORNING WAS SURPRISINGLY BREEZY, THE SUN SHONE BRIGHTLY BUT THERE WAS NO HEAT. Martina Acosta wore a beautiful floral chiffon summer dress, a vintage tote bag hung around her tan shoulder as she made her way down the hill of Rocinha. The Brazilian beauty pushed back her fake Ray Bans she found in Salinas, a beach clothing store she visited last month. Her brown curly hair fan behind her as the salty breeze caress her face and blew back her hair, Martina greeted a passing civilian as she continues her journey to Mercado Fundação.
In her head, she recited her shopping list: green chile, tomatoes, coriander, lemons, paper towel, and corona beer. She was having guacamole for lunch but then she found out she was missing some vegetables; Martina was supposed to go grocery shopping last Friday but instead decided to push it back until she was left with an empty fridge.
Martina arrived at her destination, she greeted politely to the owner before making her way to the vegetable area. Grabbing a basket in the process, she stood in front of the vegetable rack, hazel eyes searching for fresh vegetables.
"Oye, Javier!" Martina called, the owner of the Mercado turned to look at her.
"Si?" Yes.
Martina raised the green chile in her hand, "Essa é a coisa mais legal que você tem?" Javier nodded. Is this the freshest you have in vegetables? "Porra." Fuck.
Javier charged the client while proceeding to put her things in a plastic bag. "Todos os legumes frescos foram vendidos na sexta-feira. Você já sabe como isso funciona." Martina mentally scolds herself. All of the fresh vegetables were sold on Friday. You already know how this works.
Martina nodded somberly, "Obrigado." Thank you.
Without having much of a choice, Martina grabbed three semi-fresh green chiles before moving over to the next vegetables. After getting what she needed, she stopped by the liquor aisle and grabbed three Corona Beers. She grabbed the paper towel before heading over to the cashier, Javier grabbed her vegetables while Martina handed him the Corona beers and the paper towel.
