GAVIN
MAYA AND PEPPER SAT ON THE BED, GAVIN SAT FAR AWAY FROM THEM ON THE SMALL DINING TABLE WITH TWO CHAIRS. He observes Maya speak about how everything started, Gavin had no idea how Aldrich managed to build A.I.M. He was just a kid, his only concerns were taking his medicine, focusing on school, and never disturbed his father while he was working unless it was necessary. All he remembers was the sudden absence of his mother and Aldrich overworking, he was just a kid and he already knew the feeling of loneliness.
"What happened?" Maya chuckled humorlessly, "Fun fact. Before he built rockets for the Nazis, the idealistic Wernher von Braun dreamed of space travel. He stargazed."
Gavin leaned back lazily, eyebrows furrowed in concentration as he heard her. "Do you know what he said when the first V-2 hit London? 'The rocket performed perfectly. It just landed on the wrong planet.'"
She chuckles. "See, we all begin wide-eyed. Pure science. And then the ego steps in, the obsession. And you look up, you're a long way from shore."
"Wow... you are really naive," Gavin mumbled, earning their attention. He leaned forward and placed both arms against his knees, and said. "And I don't hold that against you, I once too tried seeing the brighter side of life. But that's what it is, an illusion disguised in desire."
